I published an android app on the marketplace, it lets you send sms
via your gmail or other email app. it is free and helps you to save
your money, because there is no sms fees will be charged if you send
it by emailing.

Firstly you have an android device,
go to the marketplace and download the app via below link
after you download the app, open the app and you will get instructed to do so.

Where can we find a list of the countries available to send sms? is Portugal included?
