Dear all,
This year marks the 200th anniversary of Charles Darwin's birth and the
150th anniversary of the publication of On the Origin of Species.
The University's Office of External Affairs and Communications, working
alongside Myriad PR, has been tasked with promoting and creating local,
national and international coverage of the many events planned to celebrate
Darwin's life and legacy.
To that end, we have created a very brief survey that asks respondents to
nominate a leading contemporary scientist who most deserves to be
remembered in 200 years' time.
In addition to this, we would like to know which scientific book or
publication of the past 50 years most deserves to be remembered in 150
years' time.
The idea is to release the results of the first question ahead of Darwin's
bicentenary on 12 February 2009, and the results of second on the 150th
anniversary of the publication of The Origin of Species in November 2009.
We hope this will generate publicity for the University's Darwin
celebrations and underscore the importance of scientific research in
general.
With that in mind, would it be possible to send out this email/survey to
members of the School/Faculty and any related institutions? The survey
takes two minutes to complete and is accessed by clicking onto a weblink in
an email.
