I have on many occasions made configuration settings for my Smoothie and they do not change anything.  I then inspect the override file and find a setting or offset there that I don't want.  Why even have the override file....Arthur Wolf suggests not using the override file.  So if I remove the override file, how do I save my bed leveling data.

I think you've done me a favor, Craig. I've been trying to adjust my extruder settings in the config file but they aren't "taking." I now realize I should delete the config over-ride file, which I normally do whenever I make changes to my printer's bed geometry. The bed auto-leveling method definitely says to issue M500 after leveling the system.

Smoothie docs say not to edit the config over-ride file but I've not seen mention to not use it. Why else have it?

The format for that file is very strict, you shouldn't edit it manually, but you can change all the values in it using Mcodes that's the correct way of changing those settings.

Yes, you definitely did me a favor. I just switched to an E3D Titan Aero and for the life of me couldn't get the extrusion settings to "take" from the config.txt file. I looked in the config override file and sure enough the old settings were there. I deleted the file, reset my board and all was right with the extruder. I re-ran bed leveling and saved with M500. After making some tweaks in my slicer the Aero is working perfectly. I checked the wiki but didn't see any guidance on deleting the config override file.
