Hi everyone.

I've been having trouble with this printer since day one (TEVO's Little Monster Delta). When it's not one thing, it's another, but always something! The main problem with it is that I can't get it to print tall printings. The tallest I can print is about 2 inches. I also have to print really slowly.

Some days ago, I was trying to print something tall. It did fine for about two hours (1.5"). Suddenly, it stopped and rested for a little while, then, kept printing some millimeters, rested, printed, rested, printed... I tried using different SD cards, because a lot of people solved this problem by doing that. I finally got it to print without stopping for about 7 hours (2.5") and now It just messed up the whole printing by shifting the layers. I don't know if the two problems are related. The only weird thing I can see is the stepper motors getting really hot. I'm printing ABS with a .6mm layer height, at a 30mm/s speed. (I have the printed in an enclosure)

So, I want to change the stepper motors and the main board. I want to get better ones, a different brand, or something, so I don't ever have any more issues with this printer. Since I'm new at this, I'd like to know opinions about choosing these parts for replacement. Should I get a smoothie board? Which one? Will it work with any stepper motors? How can I be sure that the board is compatible with the motors? After that, will the printer run with the firmware provided by TEVO? Will I need to change the power supply as well?

Thanks in advance for sharing your opinion, it really helps.

Erika :)

The TEVO little monster delta has, according to the gearbest site, a MKS SBASE V1.3

Should I get a smoothie board? Yes
Which one? The X4C would be a good option
Will it work with any stepper motors? Most likely. most 3D printers use stepper motors with similar specs.
How can I be sure that the board is compatible with the motors? If they are bipolar Nema17 stepper motors the smoothieboard can drive them. (feel free to correct me)
After that, will the printer run with the firmware provided by TEVO? No idea. I'd go for the stock smoothieware from github.
Will I need to change the power supply as well? No.

As for your steppers, I replaced mine with .9 degree ones (the original Rostock ones, as well as just about everyone else's, are 1.8 degree ones). This gives me a theoretical 2x resolution increase. These are the ones that I purchased:

Be sure to get new pulleys that match the shaft diameter of your new steppers, it's simply not worth the hassle of trying to get the old ones off of your old steppers.

As for your layer shift problem, you mention hot stepper motors. Try reducing the current to your steppers to see if it is a thermal shutdown (of the drivers) problem.

How smoothly do your axis move? Any binding? Check your belts for abnormal wear. Is the frame of the printer stiff?

The pausing is something that I would experience with my old Rambo controller when I would load the host up (like playing a game while it was printing). But I rarely had any layer shifts.
