I've had a bit of "project" I've been working on, and I need to get my
hand on some really, really nice shelled half pecans. Flavorful is
better than beautiful, but beauty is also nice.

Is fresher better? Does anyone on-list have a company they really
like? Googling turns up a pile of companies...

Cheers,

Segners has FRESH and shelled Pecans. This years harvest was good.
They have several varieties. The sweeter ones, (three of them) have
Native American tribal names, (which I don't recall offhand).

Here's the website. If you need help with this, and want to get them
from this place, let me know. I can pack them into a USPS Flat Rate
box for you, if you need.

Let me know.

Good LORD. Segners sells fresh, (and freshly shelled), new harvest
pecans for $9.00/lb here.

I sometime buy 5lbs of the crumbs and trash from the shelling for wild
birds here.... $1.00 a lb.

I usually keep a couple pounds around just to toss a handful into a
pan on the stove with a bit of butter or toasted sesame oil, a bit of
Old Bay and salt. Good comfort food while watching African Queen or
Casablanca.

My wife blows her stack when I snack on the pecans..."they're for

Buy two batches. One for her and one you hide from her. (Or keep in

I once tried reasoning that pecans were 3 lbs for $15, whereas 3 lbs of
candy bars are $23. She offered to get me a bulk bag of snickers at
Sam's and hid the pecans! :)

As it happens, I have a bumper crop of good-quality pecans, this year (WAY more than we can use!), so I've decided to follow my neighbor's example and sell the shelled pecans (halves and pieces) by the 1-gal zip bag for $20 + shipping. (Daddy needs a new smoker…or deer rifle, maybe. :)  If anyone is interested, please contact me off-list, please!

Bill, this year's crop seems to be producing heavier pecans, so I
would say approximately 4 lbs, but the weight will vary, somewhat.

Phil, that's basically gonna depend on where you are and how many
bags you want to order, what the shipping weight is, etc. I plan to
ship via Priority Mail, but I'm still working on the final details. I
may end up charging a flat rate for shipping and hope that it all
averages out, in the end. I'll try to have more details, later today. :)

There are two different mid size Flat rate Priority boxes that ship anywhere
in the US for $10.35 One is a cube and the other is a "shirt box" shape.
Either of these would hold a single gallon bag. The large flat rate would
hold two or possibly more. That one costs $13.95. I am pretty sure that
these would cost less than standard weight based Priority.

The flat rate prices apply to them also. I have gotten packages from Hawaii
in 2 days for the flat rate price. This is a real bargain for them. I
currently have a package on its way from Canada. Canada Post shows that it
arrived in the US last Thursday, but the trail ends there.

USPS now has 5 different sizes of Flat Rate boxes. If you can get the box closed, and it weighs under 70 lbs, it goes for whatever the flat rate is for that size box. And that IS priority mail.

When I lived in Hawaii, I used to get 8 lbs in one of the sizes for the (then) Flat Rate of $12.

Doesn't matter where its going in the U.S. Even Hawaii and Alaska.

No the Flat Rate boxes INCLUDE Hawaii and Alaska, not JUST the Lower 48.

Don't know if that includes Puerto Rico, American Samoa, TTPI or the Northern Mariana Islands or not.

Folks, it looks like I may have grossly over-estimated my pecan crop (or at least the yield from the raw nuts), and I am completely out of fresh stock, and it'll be after Thanksgiving before I'll have any more. The fact is, I had a waiting list of buyers when I first posted about this, last week, but I thought I would have enough pecans to satisfy everyone. As it turns out, I just barely had enough to take care of the folks on that waiting list. My most profuse apologies if this inconveniences any of you who wanted some of my pecans, but it simply couldn't be helped or predicted.

With that said, if any of you are still interested in pecans for Christmas, I have found a source of top-quality pecans (even better than my own!) and plan to offer them for sale after Thanksgiving. Of course, since I'll be having to buy pecans to shell and bag, I foresee that I will probably need to increase the price of the gallon bag to $23, or more (plus shipping, of course), to cover that expense. Still a pretty good bargain, at that price, though, for shelled, cleaned, and ready-to-use pecans. :)

If you think you might still be interested in pecans for Christmas, please respond off-list (let's not clutter up the mailing list with private business, please!), so I can start a new list.

Again, I'm sorry to have to cancel everyone's orders, but I hope that you will at least have time to make other arrangements for your pecans for the Thanksgiving holidays.

I am a lurker learnin from the best. I wanted to comment on both subjects in this thread. Pecan harvest isn't good this year in my part of Mo. My family has bout 100 trees and my dad cracks n blows pecans for others. Last year the cracker ran 12 hrs a day for 4 months. This year so far he has only cracked 100#. That's. Not good.
The other topic of nuts ... I haven't had turkey fries. But I like bull fries and mountain oysters.
