Someone asked what to do once the Google Group was created.  Here's the procedure

(1) Put a subscribe box on your current  Smokefree.Net list page, at http://www.smokefree.net/<list>.  Click on [Configure] in the left.  There's a new field called Google Groups name, simply put the list name (the part before the @googlegroups.com) in there, and the subscription box will appear automatically.

(2) Now send a message to your list asking them to re-join by going to that same page and putting their email in.

(3) You can also send out personal invites, and even directly add people to the list, by going to the member list on Smokefree.Net (www.smokefree.net/<list>/subscribers, then clicking on [Export] at the bottom of the page.  Now you have your list of email addresses.

Feel free to ask any questions !

Can you advise how I can move the following group lists form Smokefree.net to the Google Groups?:

My List Subscriptions:
Discussion Lists
manager-talk Smokefree Lists Discussion List immediate Unsubscribe
sf-entrances-talk Smokefree Building Entrances Discussion List immediate Unsubscribe
smokefree-talk Smokefree Discussion immediate Unsubscribe
tp-talk Tobacco Policy Discussion List web Unsubscribe
Announcement Lists
bg-announce Bill Godshall Announcement List immediate Unsubscribe
doc-alert Daily Document immediate Unsubscribe
JoeCherner-announce Joe Cherner Announcement List immediate Unsubscribe

I think I have already moved manager-talk to Google based on your initial email earlier last week.

I haven't been attentive to the sf-entrances-talk that I established some time ago and after just looking at it now, it appears that some subscribers ran into some errors and gave up?

I would appreciate any guidance in moving all of the remaining lists over.

Thanks for you help.

Bill, Joe and Anne haven't moved over their lists yet.  They are 3 of the largest lists, I'm hoping we take care of that within the next few weeks.

For sf-entrances-talk, since it was never really active, I'd say you should just start a new list on Google Groups and invite people from other lists.  Or since it's not a national movement and it would fit in the purvue of localets-talk, you could just post your message there and wait until there's so much discussion about entrances that it warrants its own list.  That'd be my recommendation.   I'm assuming ANR wants to continue to manage localets-talk, but I don't think that list has moved yet.

Tac,

I started working on moving the Doc-Alert list.  I moved it in two groups.  Google said it wanted time to review what was going on, that they look askance at adding so many people to a Google group at one time.  The message I got was that it would take them a couple of days to review my request to start the list and include all the subscribers.  I'm still waiting for a reply.

Did you add them, or invite them?  I've been mostly inviting people, both through the system and via Smokescreen.

What's the name of the new list, so I can change it on Smokefree.net?

My list is called

It looks like a few people have added themselves already.

I've added that info (via [Configure]) to your list on smokefree.net, so now the Google Subscribe box shows up on that page:

http://www.smokefree.net/doc-alert/

You should now send a message to everyone asking them to visit that page and put the email address in where they want to get their doc-alert messages.

This is the basic procedure that everyone should be doing.

How's everyone else doing with their list moves?
