Hello, list admin's!

How's it going?  I've gotten a couple of questions, and I want to start answering them here, eventually I'll turn some of these into  a FAQ about moving the lists.

Q: When are the Smokefree.Net lists closing?

A:  I'd like to stop delivering messages on October 1, except for messages along the lines of "Click here to join our new list on Google Groups if you haven't already".  People will still be able to go to the website to view archives and sign up for your list until at least the end of 2008, longer if that's important.

Q:  How do I make someone an owner or manager?

Go to your list on Google Groups.  For example, this one is http://groups.google.com/group/smokefree-administrators/

Click on [Management Tasks] (right side)

Click on [Manage Members] on the top

Check the box next to the emails you're going to change.

There are two dropdowns at the top, select what you want from them.  Delivery Type (No email, Regular, Digest), and Membership Type (Regular, Manger, Owner, Unsubscribe, Ban).

Choose what you want and click "Ok".

Owners have full contro l  over everything in the group, like banning other members, etc.  Managers have less control.  You can set up what managers can do that members can't in the [Access] tab under [Group Settings].

There's a lot of things you can set in your list, play around with them.  If you want to just play around but don't want to use your live list, go to

http://www.smokefree.net/test-talk/

You can join, post a message, and if you want, ask me to make you an owner or manager, and you can see what the differences are.  Unsubscribe when you're doing playing (or stay on, to help the next person by simply answering questions like "How did this look in your email", "Did you get this?".  There is no discussion on the test lists, it's simply to play around with seeing what happens when things are configured differently.  Don't use it to add people to the list, and only invite emails you have control over!

Feel free to use THIS list to ask questions and have a discussion about the list transitions.
