About Super Carrots:
Super Carrots are part of Food Gatherers' Community Kitchen
Job Training Program - part of our overall effort to not merely alleviate
hunger but to end hunger. Students are at-risk youth (ages 17-21) who
receive six weeks of instruction in the culinary arts and food safety while
preparing and serving hot meals to our neighbors in need at the Community
Kitchen. Graduates of this program obtain marketable skills and experience
to help them secure gainful employment in the food industry. Food
Gatherers added a paid internship component to the program in 2007 to
provide additional training and job experience to graduates.
This year, several students selected for Food Gatherers
internships are also participating in the Raised Bed Pilot Project where
they will learn valuable skills related to growing, marketing and selling
their own food. A variety of purple, orange and yellow "Super Carrot
s" will be sold by the interns at the Westside Farmers Market every
Thurs., 3-7PM, through Sept. 30.
Come visit us any Thursday through September. We'll have
our carrots through August, but we will also have other produce available
for sale. All of our produce is grown without chemicals!
See you at the market!
p.s. if you just can't believe the great deal ($3 for a big
bunch of carrots!) donations are also accepted! Can't make it to the
Farmer's Market but want to make a donation? click here!
