Afew decades ago, Amenia hosted what may have been the smallest permanent drive-in in the USA. From 1965 through 1983, no more than 54 (the Poughkeepsie Journal says 44) cars at a time squeezed in behind an auto body shop to watch a movie on a 32-foot-wide screen. (The world record holder for smallest drive-in, at 36 cars, remains the Jericho Drive-In in the Australian outback.)

The YouTube video of the day is the first of a two-part series where the brothers explain what they wanted in a drive-in and what it looks like now. Be sure to click on Part 2. Also, if you get Food Network, check them out on the Drive-In Date Night episode of Farmhouse Rules; check for its next air date here.

Only in Amenia: Every year the town holds a Strawberry Festival in late spring. The Amenia Library, founded in 1938, co-sponsors the event, featuring a silent auction, baked goods, and a book sale. The 2017 festival took place on May 20 at the Four Brothers Drive-In.

All these plans might seem like a lot for one business that started as an add-on behind the family restaurant, and it is a lot of work, but Stefanopoulos says everything has evolved organically from listening to what customers wanted. He says they regularly hear from people who drove for hours to get there, so giving them an option to camp overnight might have seemed odd at first but he rolled with it.

Two sons of one of the brothers in Four Brothers Pizza Inn have opened a drive-in movie theater right next door to the restaurant in Amenia, for those who crave top-billed movies and first-rate food.

We want to continue delivering the entertaining, informative and upbeat stories in the inimitable Rural Intelligence style. Please consider making a donation; even a small amount helps secure our future. Support us now.

The theater was built from the ground up four years ago and recently received a pat on the back from Architectural Digest that named it one of the 25 most charming drive-ins in the USA. (There are about 350 left, a big drop from the happy days when there were about 4,000.)

Like many of the original drive-ins, this is a family-owned and run operation. Set in the heart of Amenia village, the theater is an extension of the iconic Four Brothers Restaurant next door, and that location played a big role in the development of the concept, he said.

With plenty of space (16 acres), the theater came alive with a 56-by-32 foot screen and 125 car spots, so you can watch first-run movies and enjoy the outdoors at the same time. It was an organic expansion of the restaurant, so the plan started with an extended patio, lots of gardens and the snack shack. And with car hop service, you can order food by phone or online and have it delivered to your car from the snack shack (everything from burgers and popcorn to dog treats and sundaes) or the restaurant.

On weekend evenings, enjoy live music before the movie and, for the kids, balloons and face painting. Blankets and lawn chairs are encouraged, and lots of people get here hours before the film starts at dusk.

As word gets out, customers have been coming from farther afield. Jeff Palfini has been a regular customer for two years and drives over from Sharon, Connecticut. Now 44, he grew up with drive-ins as a young teenager.

The natural setting here with no speaker poles makes it a perfect wedding venue. (These days the sound comes via car radio, or a handheld radio borrowed from the ticket booth for the night.) Couples can play either a movie or their very own homemade videos, and the restaurant handles the food.

Taiki and Ryota first began karate together after they got a strong push from their mother who wanted them to learn the discipline and respect that comes with the martial art. Keito joined them at the dojo as soon as he was old enough.

Although all three brothers were highly motivated, Taiki says he loved karate the most, and he was also the first to transition to kickboxing in junior high school. He was quickly followed by Ryota, and although Keito stepped away from karate for three years to learn kendo, he joined his brothers when he started high school.

Taiki is known for his bright personality, and he says his brothers see him as the one who sets the mood when they are together. However, each of them has different personalities and kickboxing styles that help them help each other.

After all that training in their youth, the Naito brothers were destined to compete. Taiki was first to make his professional debut in Shoot Boxing in 2011, Ryota was next under the same banner in 2014, and Keito had his first outing in 2017 in Deep Kick.

Now that they are all under the same roof again, they can push each other through the toughest training sessions and ensure they all fulfill their potential. Once a week, Taiki usually leads them as they take extra time to do stair sprints together, too.

Filmmakers flew in 40 stunt drivers every weekend. They used 13 different Bluesmobiles, including five for filming John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd as they portrayed Jake and Elwood Blues driving about town.
