I am not sure about the books but one current student told me that u get caluclators for 10-15$ which are sufficient for use. I suggest we bring our engineering calculators. I forgot mine at home :(

Sandesh,
The books are really costly in US. You can search for the books using the ISBN over the internet. There are some editions available for some of the books but I don't think they are original books. I didn't try ordering them though.

Abhinav,

Same here :( Left mine in Chennai :( So I guess I will buy it in US.

Rakesh,

Here's the list but again there is a disclaimer saying the syllabus or the books can change. So, not really sure about how correct these are. Also, as per the email yesterday we have to buy some course pack which is nowhere mentioned in this list taken from Testudo. Best thing would be to ask any of the seniors

No I want to be with you guys. Just coz I am the only girl from India I shouldn't be left alone.
Anyways, leave all that.

Everyone please check the prices of the books. If they confirm then its better we book it online and order rather order it from Testudo. Any suggestions?

I had talked to a senior about it. He said since the books are very expensive they shared books between them whenever possible.

Then we can do that as well. I guess the online ones will be the easiest to share ;)  Also, I was checking the Graduate Hills have study lounges apart from the lounges in college.

Yes. Book are expensive.Additionally , Post use sell value of bought books is very low. . Sharing is always an option but renting would be cheaper and efficient
Check this :    http://www.bookrenter.com/

Talking about pre-course , I think I am going to score 10% lower :D

Cheers!

Checking out the website. Whats with the score being 10% lower? What's the threshold for this 10% measure?

Still feel renting is costly :) just checked out the rates. Most of the books are not available for rent. One is available but its around $60 for 90 days.

Thanks a ton for bringing up the immunization thing..I had totally forgotten about that :)

And, I seem to have lost the form that I got with the admit package.:( Gotta search every nook n corner of the house now.

So, what all tests can we do from India? or rather what all did you do??

-Rakesh

P.S: I think you just proved again that you're way ahead than most :P and thanx again for that

Rakesh,
Ankit has already submitted the immunization form I guess. So, I am still behind :P
Anyways as of the form, Padhy has sent the link :)
Also, for international students A, B, D and E are compulsory. I waived the Meningitis vaccination as I don't find it necessary. Apart from that Section C is again not compulsory but just recommended. Get the vaccinations if you think you want any or mention those which you have already taken.

Sandesh,
Cannot agree more. Although my engg college was too good in the matter of text and reference books of the university :P We could issue 5 books at a time from the library for the whole semester and that solved almost all the purposes :) This reminds me of something Caroline told - NONE of the books mentioned in the list are available in the library :)
