Dear Friends,

Hope you all are having a wonderful summer. As you already know, DESI (Develop Empower Synergize India) is organizing our India's 65th Independence Day Celebrations on August 15 from 6.00 - 9.00 PM at the Amphitheater and Nyumburu Cultural Center.

It’s also a wonderful way to welcome new students to UMD.

Celebrations will begin with Flag hoisting @ Amphitheatre, followed by several wonderful performances and dinner @ Nyumburu Cultural Center. So kindly mark your calendars on this day to come and celebrate with us.

If  I am not wrong, most of  you have already reached Maryland. I reached US last night. I am at my sisters's  place currently and will be reaching  Maryland on Thurs/Fri.

Btw just got a message from University Health Center

"We have received your immunization record. We did carefully review your immunization record, and we see that you will need a PPD. I do see that you had a PPD done on 7/24/11, but it was not from the United States. We cannot accept that. You will have to wait three months until you can repeat it. You will be allowed to have another PPD test on 10/24/11.  All international students are required to have a PPD. A PPD is a tuberculosis skin test. The PPD MUST be done in the United States. We will not accept a PPD done in any other countries. "

That means its sheer waste of money to get it done in India :(

Btw has anyone taken a phone connection in MD? I guess you cant take one without an SSN. Was wondering how to go about it

we can ask our seniors to add us. That's what my roomies suggested. But they themselves are added by someone else and hence they cannot add me :( 

That's the problem. 

Also, I am gonna reply to these people and tell them that I have sent the Xray report which is as per the requirement stated in the form.

Okay jus called Carly (301-314-8114) and she said they don't accept the PPD done in other countries. I was like - Well then the immunization form needs to be updated and sent. She didn't have an answer for it :(

Anyways I also have one MMR dose pending so instead they will do a lab titer test to check if i have measles which will cost around $20  :0 and can be given only after taking prior appointment. 

And now that my PPD test is already done, I can take the next one only after 3 months i.e. in October.

Feel free to call Carly for questions. Lets see if anyone gets a better reply :)

Yeah i also had my ppd done and got the xray report, as it was mentioned in the form. Anyways

 

Yeah wanted to check about  phone ? Any  idea if  AT&T works there ?

Also what about health insurance ? When are we suppose to get that and how much it is for ?

AT&T does work here. The health insurance will be provided at a nominal cost for students is what I read and if you have a GA it is supposed to be free. You can call the health center for details
