My Rebel t2i won't take pictures. When I press the shutter, it tries to focus I guess, but that's it. There is no error message on the screen at all. I wanted to see if there were any troubleshooting steps I could take before calling Canon for help.
Took a ton of pictures today on vacation. I was able to view them on the camera itself after taking them. Got home, put memory card in my computer, pictures weren't there. Put memory card back in camera, pictures were gone from there too. What the heck?!
I tried running a data recovery tool to no avail. The files it found for me were all old pics. Nothing from today's date so I did not pay the money to recover them. All pictures from yesterday and before are still there.
Interestingly enough, there were 172 pics that were lost and when he checked them all for recovery and began the process, a progress bar showed on the screen. The first 171 pictures took just a few minutes and only about 1/3 of the progress bar. When it got to picture 172, it took another 10-15 minutes and the remaining 2/3 of the progress bar. Things that make you go hmmm...right?
i just had this problem happen to me. i viewed the pics multiple times on the camera so i know they were there. i had 4 diffrent dates i took pictures and only 2 of them i saved. i was going to download next 2 dates of pics after vacaion and i viewed them on vacation, got home put memory card in computer, nothing. put back in card to camera and all 4 pic dates where gone. im comletely lost and why they would vanish and these where important pics of friends baby 1 year pics. i couldnt have deleted them because i still have over 8k pics on the card. why would 3 months of pics just vanish? is all hope lost here? thanks
I just received this camera as a present a few days ago. Today I was trying to change the shutter speed and aperture and now it won't take pictures or focus. I had never used a DSLR camera before. Please help.
I have been struggling to get all of my pictures crisp! I will find some that are perfect and they excite me!!! But then I find something like these and cannot figure out the issue. Even in super sunny (with a hood) light I will get slightly blurry photos at times. I literally have held my breath.... I use the viewfinder and usually shoot in M mode. I see it happen with both my short and my zoom lens... so I am wondering if it would be something in the camera itself causing it? I can literally focus crystal clear on their eyes and it seems like something else comes out clear instead, like it shifts, regardless how gentle I am. I am so frustrated by this... any respectful suggestions are appreciated. I have researched and tried many things.... and just want ALL my pictures clear!!! I use a T3i, and the IS is always on on my lens. I don't care if I manual focus or auto focus (usually when I need to go real high or real low, or have a large group)... and to be honest, manual focus gives me clearer shots of what I want. Auto focus tends to be a joke at focusing on what I want. LOL If I change the settings for a brighter picture, it doesn't seem to matter, and I end up with a stark bright capture..... thank you in advance for you help.
i was just uploading my photos and next second my EOS550D canon decided to start taking photo's and i turned it off then on and it is still doing it it will not stop taking photo's , nothing was touching shutter button it was plugged into the computer i do not know whats wrong with it at all
We are pretty new to using a Canon camera and lens. We are currently using Rebel T5i and the lens that I am having problems with is EFS 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM. When the camera is on the tripod my pictures are fine, but if I am hand holding the camera the pictures turn out grainy. I change the shutter speed when I am hand holding it. Any ideas on why this could be? Here is a picture of the grainy when I hand hold the camera, and non grainy when it is on the tripod. Any help we can get is much appreicated!!
I just tried what you said and WOW did that help out a lot!! Thank you for putting it into step by step for us! Also The pictures that I posted were just taken very quickly to show the grain, we usually make it to where the reflection is not there lol!! But thank you for the help with that as well!
This is a crazy issue, my T6i refuses to take pictures. Battery is fully charged, I can use all of the options in the menus, the touch touchscreen works. Everything works as it should until i press the button to capture the picture. I press it and it does nothing. Has anyone seen this before? It also seems like when i put the touchscreen to display the live image on the LCD it goes black. Any help would be great.
I was taking pictures this morning then all of a sudden my camera (Canon Rebel XSi digital) just stopped working, I would push the button down to take pictures and the button would push all the way down, but nothing would happen. I've had this happen in the past and all i had to do was clean the camera and it would work fine.
This time I cannot get my camera to work at all. It will not take pictures with the small 18-55 mm lens and will not take pictures with the 75-300 lens. I've tried taking the battery out and putting back in, cleaning the camera, tried taking pictures in manual focus, charging the battery even though it was full, tried resetting the features on the camera and nothing will work. I cleaned it a second time, and still nothing. I did notice that when I was looking through BOTH camera lenses, I could see little black fibers on the screen, so I'm assuming the camera is dirty and it is not the lenses? I'm not sure though. I don't know if these are scratches or fibers somewhere inside the camera.
I'm trying to upload photos from my Canon R5 Mirrorless camera using the onboard software and Canon's "image.canon" server solution. The camera connects to my Google mesh network, but it won't allow the camera to upload the photo to the server.
Yesterday I was talking some pictures in a museum and the camera suddenly starting taking black pictures. In all conditions and settings camera is taking black pictures. I am not able to see the actual scene that I want to capture. Camera shows it black. But capturing pictures is working normal and capturing black pictures. I can see all the graphics and setting numbers on LCD and View finder. I can also see previously captured pictures and videos without any problem.
I have a similar problem, my camera only takes black pictures and the screen is black and flickers with horizontal lines when i turn it on. The shutter opens, I did the check you suggested above and could see the shutter blinking when i took a picture, so it isn't that. Could it be the sensor, as you suggested regarding the initial question on this post? Do you know how i could check, and how to fix it??
Know this is an old post, but this is a very common problem for the Canon S2 and S3 IS series cameras, and there are likely others reading this with the same problem. But happily, it's easily fixed without even putting a screwdriver to the camera. A stuck shutter is a common failure mode for digital cameras. The symptoms of a stuck or "sticky" shutter are very similar to CCD image sensor failure. The camera may take black pictures (for shutter stuck closed), or the pictures may be very bright and overexposed, sometimes with lines, especially when taken outdoors (for shutter stuck open).

As long as your Canon camera is connected to the internet, you can upload all original image and video files, including RAW, HEIF, and video files, directly from the camera to the image.canon cloud storage platform. On compatible camera models (released in or after July 2020), you can even set the files to auto-transfer.
1. You can also upload photos and videos to image.canon from your smartphone/computer
However, some file formats might not be supported compared to when you upload directly from the camera.
As image.canon is a cloud-based platform, using the image.canon app enables you to view your images and videos anywhere, any time, and share them on social media without having to first download them to your smartphone.
Usage of image.canon is free. You will need a Canon ID, which you probably already have if you have been using various Canon services. In fact, your SNAPSHOT login ID is also a Canon ID. You will need to register your Canon camera serial number.
Currently I am using an EF-S 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 IS. But I feel this range is not sufficient for me, shooting events and sports. So I am considering an EF 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6L IS USM. It has a bit more reach (300 vs 200). Can you advise if it would give me clearer pictures and be more suitable for events and sports? I am using a Canon 650D.
