Dimensions of Current Compositional Practice: Composers in Dialog with Musicologists
16-18 July 2024
Fondazione Giorgio Cini, Venice
Application deadline (participation and grant) : 30 April 2024
Notions of "form", "instrument", "sound" and "timbre" will be discussed alternately by two composers internationally known for their works, their teaching and publishing activities: Agostino Di Scipio and Marco Stroppa. In turn, they will establish a dialogue with Mark Delaere and Ulrich Mosch, renowned musicologists with a wealth of music theory, as well as with a group of young composers and musicologists. Seminar coordination is due to Gianmario Borio, director of the Institute for Music at Fondazione Cini. The MDI ensemble will also be hosted, with a concert featuring works by the two composers.
The official language of the seminar is English.
The call is open to 12 composers and/or musicologists to be supported with a scholarship grant, and 12 composers and/or musicologists without grant, having a marked interest and commitment to research on 20th and 21st century music. Particularly welcome are candidates at an early stage of their career (composition diploma, musicology PhD, etc.). The selection of candidates will also take into account the international width of the seminar and the greatest possible gender balance.
