Hi all – not sure whether this will appeal to anyone else here (it does to me), but there’s an opportunity for a creative science writer to do something interesting at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe this summer… Essentially, "The Sick of the Fringe" is a Wellcome-funded project that wants to hire people to write responses to fringe shows with medicine/health themes that put the scientific content in a wider context.

See below, and if interested, get in touch with the lovely Sick of the Fringe team. Or if you’re shy you can ask me about it first (though there’s probably not a lot I can add to what’s here…).

Cheers
Michael

The Sick of the Fringe is back in Edinburgh in 2016! We are currently looking for writers with science and/or arts experience to work with our team to cover the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Instead of providing reviews about what's hot or not in performance, comedy, theatre, dance and spoken word, The Sick of the Fringe is looking to connect ideas across performances, link audiences with relevant research and current events, and provide a more supportive community for artists making work which deals with health, illness, disability, medicine and the body.

We are looking to connect with writers who might be available for either the full month of August 2016, or any 5-7 day period in the month. Writers are paid for their participation with housing and transport provided (determined by length of stay and daily writing commitment). Please send an email of interest to in...@thesickofthefringe.com

Below is an article written for Contemporary Theatre Review, which has a pretty full description of the project, and links at the bottom to a number of diagnoses from The Sick of the Fringe:
