We hope this note finds you well at the start of the fall term. We are about a month away from the October 15 deadline to submit brief paper descriptions for the upcoming CBE – Life
Sciences Education (LSE) Special Issue on Equity, Inclusion, Access, and Justice in Biology Education. We hope many of you will consider submitting 300-700 word descriptions of Essays or Research Articles for inclusion in the special issue. The bottom of this message includes information regarding the types of papers that LSE invites into the Essay and Article tracks. Full manuscripts would be due by February 2024. Please
read all the details, including the list of guest editors and their contact information at https://www.lifescied.org/equity-special-issue/
Do not hesitate to reach out to us (kdta...@sfsu.edu, schins...@fhda.edu) or to any of the guest editors with questions or concerns. We enjoy the opportunity to correspond with authors prior to submission.
Notes Regarding LSE Submission Tracks:
Essay submissions are syntheses of the existing research literature, often similar to review articles. Any recommended teaching resources or suggested educational approaches in Essays should be supported by citations to existing research literature from across a variety of contexts (e.g., not just from the work of one research group). Manuscripts that include new data or claims about the efficacy of a novel instructional approach or a novel curriculum should be submitted as Articles, not as Essays.
Research Articles share novel evidence collected by the authors and generally 1) Establish a gap in the existing research literature that is being addressed, 2) Use measures with evidence for their validity in the study context, 3) Align claims with the evidence collected, and 4) Apply an anti-deficit lens in the study design and analysis. Additional details regarding these paper tracks can be found at https://www.lifescied.org/info-for-authors
Best wishes,
Jeff Schinske and Kimberly Tanner, on behalf of the LSE Guest Editor Team as well
