Dear Colleagues and Members of the Research Community,
We would like to make you aware of two new initiatives from the Intercollegiate Biomathematics Alliance (IBA).
What This Means:
Young researchers with accepted manuscripts in Spora can now publish their work free of charge. This initiative removes financial barriers that often prevent early-career scholars from sharing their important findings with the broader scientific community.
How It Works:
Eligibility:
This program is specifically designed for young researchers, including undergraduate/graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and early-career faculty members who are submitting their manuscripts with at least one qualifying (co-) author.
Next Steps:
Once you have an accepted manuscript and believe you qualify for this support, please contact our editorial office at Spora Editorial Office with your manuscript ID and a brief statement confirming your eligibility status.
We extend our sincere gratitude to IBA for their commitment to advancing scientific communication and supporting the next generation of researchers. This contribution reflects their dedication to making quality research accessible regardless of institutional funding constraints.
About the Fellowship
Awarded biennially in even years, the Winnie Powell Graduate Fellowship honors graduate students who have demonstrated outstanding scientific achievements in mathematical biology. This fellowship serves as a testament to rigorous inquiry, innovative modeling, and the profound impact of quantitative approaches in biological sciences.
Eligibility Criteria To be considered for this honor, nominees must meet the following requirements:
Nomination Process We invite you to identify and nominate students whose work stands out for its originality, depth, and contribution to the field. Please submit nominations by August 21, 2026 using the form provided below.
Nominations should include:
Why Nominate? Recognizing these achievements not only supports the individual researcher but also highlights the vital role of mathematical biology in advancing our understanding of complex life systems.
Let us come together to celebrate and support the next generation of leaders in this dynamic field.
Best regards,
Olcay Akman
