Ever since I've been riding to Manchester, I've always been curious about this old building on Highway 1 that is just outside of "town", partly hidden by shrubs and trees. I've asked Kelly and David at the Zen House, and they weren't familiar with it.
This year on the Nor Cal club meet, I noticed a "For Sale" on the property, so I looked up the listing online.
"Dating back to approximately 1907, the historic Manchester School House exemplifies North Coast School Architecture and is one of the only remaining buildings of its kind which exists today along California's coastline. The exterior patina masks age-old detail throughout the redwood structure. Relocated to its current site in approximately 1978, the 4,000 square foot schoolhouse sits on a modern perimeter foundation. The building is divided into four open spaces over two stories."
Looks like somebody had big plans to convert the school into a residence, and has finally given up on the idea.
