Out of 22 articles included in this review, 15 studies used culture media for the diagnosis of XDR-TB. BACTEC alone was used in five studies, LJ (Lowenstein-Jensen) alone was used in only two studies, and BACTEC and LJ both were used in four studies. The combination of LJ, Acid Fast Bacillus (AFB), and BACTEC (Bacteriology Bactec Automated Blood Culture System) was used in two studies and LJ and AFB were used in only one study. In the remaining 7 articles, the diagnostic technique was not specified. In 20 (90.9%) articles, sputum smear-positive was observed at the baseline.
