I wanted to see what SmartSVN was like so I just downloaded 9.2.2 but the version of Java shipped with my OS (Linux Mint 18) and the latest version from Oracle both get me the same error message ("You are using an untested Java version"), no matter whether I signal it with jre= in ~/.smartsvn/smartsvn.vmoptions or with the environment variable SMARTSVN_JAVA_HOME.

OpenJDK Runtime Environment (build 9-internal+0-2016-04-14-195246.buildd.src)
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 9.0.4+11)

I'm surprised there's nothing on the web site about this. What version of Java must I use?

Hi Peter,

Sorry for the delay. For an unknown reason your posting did not reach our email ticket system.

For SmartSVN 9.2 you will need Java 1.8. Your can download the JRE from http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jdk8-downloads-2133151.html (the .tar.gz file should be sufficient). As stated in the readme-linux.txt you may tell SmartSVN about the JRE directory by adding the line

jre=/path/to/jre

to ~/.smartsvn/smartsvn.vmoptions (of course replace "/path/to/jre" with the root path of your JRE installation).
