Title : PROTECTION

Speaker : Vishwas Patil

Date : APR 03, 2006

Venue & Time : Aula Alfa, 113 Via Salaria. 3:00PM

Abstract : `Protection' is a general term for all the
mechanisms that control the access of a program to
other things in the system. Matters are somewhat
confused by the fact that a system can be complete
from the point of view of a community of friendly
and infallible users, without any protection at
all. This observation should not, however, be taken
to imply that protection is a minor
consideration. On the contrary, real users are far
from infallible, not to mention their programs, and
privacy is a crucial issue in most real systems. As
a result, protection considerations are pervasive in
any system design [Butler Lampson].

In this series of talks, we will take a stock of
some of the important classical results by Lampson,
Bell-LaPadula, Harrison-Ruzzo-Ullman, Lipton-Snyder
et al.

Please feel free to extend this invitation to other interested people.
