Hi,

I just downloaded version 7.1 (I was using 7.0).  I can launch the app fine (with bin/smartgit.sh) and the app appears to be working as normal.

BUT... when I try to get a Log of whatever repo I have loaded the app just hangs and I have to kill it.

Any ideas what this could be or how I can track it down?

Cheers,
Matt

Sorry, I forgot to mention that this is on Ubuntu 14.04

Also I noticed that the log does appear if (while waiting) you go click on Choose... icon to select a folder (e.g. via Repository->Add or Create) the log then appears.

Cheers,
Matt

Hi Matthew,

Could you please describe in details, what exact steps I need to do that the Log does not occur? It is not obvious to me. Thanks in advance.

Hi Thomas,

 - Add/Create a repository.
 - From the toolbar, click the Log icon
 - Alternatively right click on the repo name and select Log from the dropdown menu

Cheers,
Matt

Hi Thomas,

same behaviour for me, also Ubuntu 14.04. Smartgit just hangs if I want to open the log perspective.

Hi Stephan,

I reckon you mean the Log window, not a perspective, right? Are you trying to open the log for the whole repository or for subdirectory or a file? Is the problem reproducible for you with a simple one-commit test-repository and with fresh SmartGit settings? I neither can reproduce the problem on a 32-bit and a 64-bit Ubuntu 14.04(.3), on Linux Mint (Cinnamon) (VMWare installations) nor on our 64-bit Ubuntu 14.04 work machine. It looks like there is something special (though unfortunately not uncommon) with your machines.

Do you have installed the .tar.gz or the .deb bundle?

Are there other users on Linux that *can* or *can't* reproduce the problem? At the moment we have absolutely no clue what could cause this problem.

Hi Thomas,
I can confirm that this issue also happens for me. I am on Ubuntu 14.04 64 bit running Smartgit 7.1.1. I installed from .deb bundle. I am trying to open log for the whole repository, not for a specific directory.

Also this issue started occurring from 7.1. Previous versions were ok. Matthew's workaround also does work, thank you for it :).

Do I read correctly between the lines that the problem only is reproducible for you when having installed as .deb bundle, but not if you have it installed as .tar.gz bundle?

Hi John,

It would be very interesting to know whether it works for you with the .tar.gz bundle - even if the content is equal. Please also try to launch from command line vs. by clicking the icon. Everything might be interesting.

BTW, did anybody had this problem during the preview releases?

Matt,

This work-around works for me too. But I don't understand it. Still, better than the alternative of not being able to get a Log window at all.

No. I am having the same problem and have NOT found a fix. What I said was that like the other to too installed from DEB package. However, I downloaded the the tarball and used a comparison programs (Meld) to compare the files, wondering if there might be any differences. There weren't. So I strongly suspect that I would have the SAME issues if I had installed from a tarball.

Hope that clears up the confusion,

I am seeing the exact same behavior in not being able to open a Log window for a repository (either newly added or several that I've worked with in previous versions of SmartGit.  This started happening when I upgraded to SmartGit 7.1.1. I too am running Ubuntu 14.04 64-bit. I installed from a deb bundle. However I downloaded the tarball and did a comparison on all the files (what was in the tarball against what was in the deb). I could find no differences.

I also tried running SmartGit 7.1.1 on Windows 10 with the same (remove/cloned) repositories and had NO trouble at all. So it's something about the Ubuntu version.

I will try Matthews trick of clicking "Choose..." tomorrow when I'm at work.

Hope we can figure this out soon. I've become so spoiled by using SmartGit, it pains me to think about going commandline for a while.

Yep, I'm currently living with it and the workaround.  Thought I was the only one, but seems not!

Matthew and others,

We think, this bug has a very high priority. Unfortunately, we are still not able to reproduce it, but I reckon this reproducibility as essential for finding the reason why it occurs so we may have a chance to fix it.

It would be very welcome if the Linux users who can open the log without problems and who can't open the log would share their Linux specifications, especially what Linux variant, what Windows manager, what GTK version is printed on application start to the log, what Java version, running on a physical machine or virtual machine, ...

I'm in the same boat, can't open the log window.

I'm running Ubuntu 14.04.4 LTS

java version "1.8.0_72"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.8.0_72-b15)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 25.72-b15, mixed mode)

Unity WDM

I can see the log of my repo through IntelliJ IDE fine.

Can't see where the smartgit 'log' is that you talk about on startup.

Running:
 dpkg -s libgtk2.0-0|grep '^Version'

returns:
 Version: 2.24.23-0ubuntu1.4

Very annoying bug, app seems more unstable on 7.1 too (trying to close it often hangs the app).

Hi Tim,

Please add following line to smartgit.properties:

smartgit.swt.simulateSyncExec=true

and try the intermediate build 6109 (Help > Check for Latest Build).

Hi all,

If that does not help, please try adding following line to ~/.smartgit/smartgit.vmoptions:

-DSWT_GTK3=1

Saved the day!

This is working fine for me. I don't see the wheel on the mouse arrow but a nasty watch icon. Don't care, it works! COOL!

Hi,
I've the same issue with the last 8.0.3 version
If I try to add -DSWT_GTK3=1  on ~/.smartgit/smartgit.vmoptions I'm able to open Log windows but other there is a issue on Repositories view.
I've only one project and I see 4 "project" and they are a subdirectory (always the same) of my project.
btw, if I click on one of them I see another random sub directory and projects increase (at moment they are 9).

What can I do?

Regards
