Hello,

I installed the SmartGit (version 21.2.1 #18121, installed:#18117) on Linux Ubuntu 18.04 and tried to clone the repository on SmartGit and getting the error message:

"Authentication using OAuth failed.
Check your GitHub Hosting Provider configuration in the Preferences."

Tried the SSH and got the following message:

"Exhausted available authentication methods."

The new token is created on the Linux machine by following the step in:

And the repository can be successfully cloned by "git clone" command. The cloned repository can also be opened on SmartGit.

Can you suggest the possible reason that the repository failed to be cloned on SmartGit?

Thanks
Andy

Hi Andy,

Please try the SSH with SmartGit 22.1 preview from

https://www.syntevo.com/smartgit/preview/

We have updated the SSH library to support newer SSH servers, too.

Hello Thomas,

I installed the SmartGit 22.1 preview 5. When I tried to clone the repository, I got a new error:
"Git Executable is not valid
'/home/andyfung/Documents/smartgit/git/bin/git' seems to be no valid Git executable. Git version 2.16 or newer is required."

What is printed if you execute

$ /path/to/smartgit/git/bin/git --version

in the terminal?

Hi Andy,

Could you please try the Git installed on the system or the one bundled with SmartGit 21.2 in the meantime?

Hello Thomas,

In Preferences->Git Executable->"~/Documents/smartgit/git/bin/git"
This is the one in Smartgit 22.1.

Also tried "~/Downloads/smartgit/git/bin/git" This is the one in Smartgit 21.2

Thanks,
Andy

Hi Andy,

Please use Help | Check for Latest Build to get #19085 which should come with a bundled Git that works on Ubuntu 18.04, too.

Hello Thomas,

Followed the instruction to create a ssh key and the file stored in /home/andyfung/.ssh/id_ed25519 and got "Exhausted available authentication methods."

Tried generated a API token but still failed.

We've discussed off-list. The problem was in the repository permissions at github, not in SmartGit:

https://docs.github.com/en/account-and-profile/setting-up-and-managing-your-github-user-account/managing-your-membership-in-organizations/requesting-organization-approval-for-oauth-apps

Andy had to ask for access request, then wait for approval from the owner.
