Hello,

I just updated from 17 (release) to 17.1 RC and SmartGit has become unusable.
When I open the program, the "Files" tab is blank (even if there are modified files in the repository) and the status bar says "Refreshing...".

This happens with every single repository that I have on this computer.

I have tried deleting the settings directory to let it re-import from the old settings.
I have also tried the newest build. (I don't remember what I was on before, but I am now on 11160 and there was no change).

What else can I try?
What other information might be needed to solve the problem?

Thanks,
Moshe

I should also note that I have let it sit for up to 10 hours (overnight) and nothing has changed.

I figured it out!

On this machine, I had created a Git repository in "C:\" to save things like the "hosts" file and similar configuration files. This repository had a .gitignore file that contained "*" in order to ignore any file that was not explicitly added to the repository, but that isn't actually relevant to the issue.

Older versions of SmartGit handled this correctly, but this version incorrectly follows all the way up to that root-level Git repository and gets stuck.

You should be able to reproduce this very easily - just run `git init` in "C:\" (have to run as Administrator) and then open SmartGit for any repository on the same hard drive.

Thanks, I could reproduce this problem. Please give build 11173 a try for which it should be fixed: Help|Check for Latest Build
