For the 2011-2012 academic year, HCC implemented a new assessment tool of teaching and learning in collaboration with the University of North Texas and Smarter Surveys. Based on the UNT’s SETE (Student Evaluation of Teaching Effectiveness), EGLS3 (Evaluation for Greater Learning Student Survey System), replaced a home-grown paper-based system. These researched-based questions relate to instruction and provide scores in three key areas. These scores are used to promote continual improvement of instruction through program-based and faculty-driven professional development. Institutional Research staff worked with HCC’s Faculty Senate, and other areas to plan, pilot, and implement this change in culture.
