Dear customer of the SmartComponent Library,

today we have released a new version of the SmartComponent Library on our website:

This link is accessible by active maintenance customers of the SmartComponent Library only.

The new version of the SmartComponent Library is compatible with OpenEdge 10.2B Service Packs 3 through 5. We recommend using OpenEdge Service Pack 5. This is also the first version of the SmartComponent Library that we have tested on OpenEdge 11.0 (released just before X-Mas).

This version introduces new versions of the SmartComponent Library .NET Assemblies. Please check the release note for the current versions of the Assemblies (dll files).

To improve the reliability of the OpenEdge Architect Visual Designer (AVM crashes) we are now able to perform the search for class files (e.g. the Business Entity Lookup up of the SmartBindingSource or SmartBusinessEntityAdapter property sheet) in a separate Progress runtime. This feature needs to be turned on for the project AVM when OpenEdge Architect is launched. For this purpose this deployment does contain a version of the file _idestartup.p. This file is launched by OpenEdge Architect whenever a project AVM or the Shared AVM is started. If you already have a version of the file _idestartup.p in place you may need to merge those two files into one. It is recommended to remove the R-Code of the Consultingwerk.Util.ClassHelper class file (Consultingwerk\Util\ClassHelper.r) before starting OpenEdge Architect the first time after applying the new version of the SmartComponent Library. Otherwise it's more than likely that the static property

Consultingwerk.Util.ClassHelper:UseExternalRuntimeForGetClassNames

that is being set by the _idestartup.p code isn't yet available and starting the project AVM will fail. This would cause further issues when trying to recompile the new version of the SmartComponent Library or your application.

As always it's the recommended approach the remove all R-Code (of the SmartComponent Library and your application) before starting the initial recompilation after applying this update.
