Issues with OpenEdge 11.3 service pack 1 (11.3.1)

Dear user of the SmartComponent Library,

 

We have just identified and reported to Progress a serious regression issues in the Visual Designer.

 

Developers may be seeing this error message frequently when switching from the Visual Designer to the source code editor. The error message may be shown a few times or in an (almost) infinitive loop and the AVM may also crash.

 

 

We have isolated the area which causes the issues and are expecting a confirmation from PSC that this is a regression issue very soon.

 

As of today, I cannot recommend the use of OpenEdge 11.3.1 for development! Customers that have already upgraded to 11.3.1 should consider to downgrade to 11.3. When you need to be using 11.3.1 because you may be running into issues such as OE00240183 and OE00240707 the only workaround that I am aware of right now is to open only source code editors OR Visual Designers at a time.

 

The case number under which we have logged this at tech support is 00256109.

 

We will keep you informed about the status of this issue.

Dear Customer of the SmartComponent Library,

we have now received hotfix 11.3.1.003 for OpenEdge 11.3 Service Pack 1 and this seems to fix our issue with the Visual Designer in 11.3.1 (Progress Software Bug Number PSC00269737).

If you're not seeing this hotfix in your ESD account, you can request if from Progress Software with a reference to Bug PSC00269737. 

But we can also make this hotfix (700 MB) available to our clients.
