I attended a meeting this week with Dr. Ralescu's grad students. It
was a good opportunity to tell them about my project, voice any
concerns I had and take suggestions for folks with experience in
similar problem areas. It took a while for me to convey completely
the concept of my project. It seems as though people get caught up in
the Player Piano aspect of the project, which is more metaphorically
related than really a part of the project. I will need to modify the
way I explain the project to help disrupt this confusion.
My main concern that I voiced with them was importing an image into
the application and how to play the image without sounding too
overwhelmed (dense images). The best suggestion that I heard was to
take a "sketch" of the image. Stick with the outlines or where colors
contrast greatly. This adds another difficult programming challenge
to the project, but I believe it would solve the problem at hand. The
next step to that is squeezing a 200 pixel image into at most 88
pixels.
