Weekly Update - 1-15-2010

We are back in business with the Smart Player Piano project. My plans
were to get lots of work done over Christmas break, but as one might
assume ... this did not happen. As a result, I am slightly behind
schedule. In the past week, however, I have really been getting into
the technical knowledge involved in the start of this application.

I have been looking at a lot of examples of java applications working
with MIDI files and am looking a lot into the Sequencer class as my
primary method of reading and writing MIDI files. I have also been
researching the differences, both pros and cons between a GUI of Swing
or SWT. Currently I am leaning a little more towards SWT, but I'd
like to do more research before I can 'commit' to one or the other.

As for my adviser, Dr. Ralescu, I am planning on emailing her once per
week (Fridays) in addition to the more formal report that I will keep
here in my journal. I also plan to make more updates beyond the once
weekly update. If a good amount of work has been done in one day, I
will make an update with discussion of the work and time.
