Email addresses are not visible to the public! They're hidden with "..."

 

Example:

 

mlinn...@verizon.net
Group owner

 

Sure, when your're a group owner you have the right to manage the group by clicking on "Management tasks". There all email addresses are visible but only to group owners, not to the public. The public will not see the "Management tasks" link.
