Hello everyone,

Jerry, Alan and Boris thanks for the sympathy about my back problem. It all got worse during the last two weeks but now at least I can move again and keep on doing my duties. I´m struggling because the HR left me without health plan and I didn´t know about it until now (and because of that I have to wait for 90 days – if I´m still here by than).

About this discussion, I´m kind of happy with all this mess because finally the discussion on how to use the google group is coming up! As Boris said I´ve tried to address this TWICE and I even did a 5 second pool to try to get some ideas for 3 simple questions. If it wasn´t for Boris I think none of us would even remember that the google group email exist to make our life easier (that was the main idea since the beginning).

I´m sincere when I say to you that this unmotivated me a lot, since I´m not sure how I´ll be promoting SP in the facebook once I cannot even get an answer from the people that are the core group of it (and attention because I´m not only talking about Jerry here!).

I think we should be more objective when we have new ideas, giving people simple directions and objectives without having 3 miles of text to read and think about. That only makes everyone not to pay attention that the ideas deserve it. I feel this way because I´ve seen my ideas and from others being putted away easily enough.

And all of this is cyclic. When an idea is not heard and properly answered you´re not going to contribute again. As you know, that´s one of the KM biggest problems.

So, my suggestion is:

Let´s keep it simple and objective and try to answer any simple question or request, not only when it´s directed to you. If the message is for the group, it´s also for you. Feedback is important. I talk for myself when I say that I rather spend my time doing job and faculty works that writing and not getting any responses.

I hope that you give a big discount to the “negative feeling” when you read this message (written communication it´s NO effective as you all know and my foreign English make things worse). I´ve wrote all this with my heart, because I think that it´s all about motivation and KM passion.

Cheers,

Daniel

Sorry daniel, I was one of them who haven't replied. This was because ... no excuse:-)

Anyway, so let's do it again. Vote for it if the group should be visible to the public or not.

Maybe we should ask our prosumers, too? I coud write a blog on the magazine website for that. This blog will be distributed to all of our groups, expect the facebook group.

Boris

PS: Alice, please join the SP team google group. You're the only one who haven't accepted the invitation yet

Ok, the time for voting is over.

Four of you voted:
3 yes, keep it open
1 yes keep it open but (see commet)
1 no, keep it closed, but (see comment)

1 replied with a comment but no vote. No vote no count ...

So the group will be OPEN!

Following the comments ...

"There are already a number of discussion channels. What is the
purpose of this group? Why not use the Mixxt forum? Is this because
the Google group can use email while Mixxt requires a browser? I think
Jerry is right that one channel should be kept private to discuss
"admin" topics that does not need to be public. For ideas & article
topics that should have larger audience, one of the forums can be
used. In other words, the Google group should have a specific purpose
rather than be another parralel channel."

"I've already explained that I won't be able to speak as openly if
this group is open. But maybe I should not even bare my soul to you if
it's too negative to share with all."

"I believe everything and everyone should be visible, except for the
ugly Admin details... As with anything, there needs to be some Admin
management."

.. and my comments on the comments:-)

Yes, there are already a number of discussion channels but it is the
easiest way to communicate with all team members at once. As for the
browser vs. email issue using the mixxt forum would be more
complicated, that's true. Btw you can now get updates by email (http://
smart-people.mixxt.com/) if you prefer this way to get updates. Not
only for prospective team discussions I would reommend to follow the
updates on mixxt. It is the platform for the ongoing development of
the magazine and all team members should be aware what's going on
there in order to respond timely ...

If this group is a closed group it has no value in my opinion. We can
continue our conversation via email. It is easy to create a team email
list in your email client ...

If this group is open it has several advantages:
(1) People see that we're active in the ongoing development of Smart
People. To rise reputation as open community also bad issues and how
we do things should be addressed here (remember the buzzwords in
theory: openness, transperency, trust, knowledge to action ...)
(2) In terms of online marketing and search engine optimization it is
good to have an other source visible to the public (search engine
robots)
(3) As for technical issues it is better to have the team
conversations here than on mixxt or ning because the rss feed of this
group is providing more information to the other groups than those of
mixxt and ning.

Example: The following post on mixxt or ning is e.g. displayed on
twitter in the following ways

#SPmag ning: Moria Levy added a discussion: Moria Levy added a
discussionKM StandardsWe are initiati.. http://tinyurl.com/nw9xum

#SPmag mixxt: New forum post http://tinyurl.com/nw9xum

With google groups it woud be this way:
#SPmag team: KM Standards We are initiating,a KMstandard Israel, that
will enable organizations to be KMcertified http://tinyurl.com/nw9xum

So leave this group open, be as open as you can be, for the rest (the
messages that should kept private) use the email backdoor as usual.

The group is OPEN now!
