Regarding to the scope-and-launch-context from EHR, does it require to set the patient, encounter and location scope?  According to HL7.org, it does ... but from SMARTHealthIT.org, it does not.  Which one is correct?

Can you please clarify your question?  What is the specific document or link on hl7.org you are referring to?

Scopes are items you register your SMART app with, and request as your SMART app is authorized.  Using scopes, you can request a launch context (from the EHR) or request a specific launch context (when standalone).  When your app is launched and receives an access token, your app will also receive the launch context values including patient, encounter, location, etc. according to the scopes you have been granted, the actual state of the EHR (for example, is a patient selected or not), and the EHR support of each context value (for example, does the EHR support the encounter launch context).

Hello Travis,

Thanks for the quick response,

The HL7 document reference here - http://hl7.org/fhir/smart-app-launch/conformance/

Based on the docs from - http://docs.smarthealthit.org/authorization/scopes-and-launch-context/  … Launching from EHR, the document did not show the requirement for the scope/context needed when the app is launching from EHR.

Again thanks,
Tue

Hi Tue,

That document reflects ongoing work to standardize a portion of the SMART specification though HL7 (see details at: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!searchin/smart-on-fhir/standardizing%7Csort:relevance/smart-on-fhir/hTD7wlxs4Fg/p1FxqREAAgAJ ). The scopes haven’t materially changed (http://hl7.org/fhir/smart-app-launch/scopes-and-launch-context/ ), but until the HL7 documentation is finalized, please continue to use the version of the SMART documentation at http://docs.smarthealthit.org .

Regards,
Dan
