SDP project idea

Hello! This is imon of CSE '09 (KU). I am thinking of a SDP project
idea-- How it would be to develop a software which could use a web cam
to recognize human faces.

I have thought of different uses of it. Some of which are..........

1. If we can fit it at a office door it can recognize the employees
and can keep data who is signing in. It also can be used for sign out
purposes. So the software can keep track of the total time an employee
is staying at the office.

2. It can be used at the door of a class room. So students' attendance
can be counted automatically. It may be helpful for a large class.


Now I am in 2nd year and don't know if it is a suitable project for
me. I have heard that students of final year are doing thesis on this.
I may use some standard algorithm. So let me know which would be the
best algorithm for this purpose, if u have any experience.

Please let me know if u can suggest any other ideas which can be taken
as a 2nd year undergraduate Software Development Project.
