I am new to directx, but have been surprised that most examples I have seen the world matrix and view matrix are multiplied as part of the vertex shader, rather than being multiplied by the CPU and the result being passed to the shader.

I have debuged it, and I found that the directx subsystem calls the function pfnSetStreamSourceUm
in user-mode display driver when Google Earth runs, but the DirectX 9 examples in DirectX SDK will
not cause the directx subsystem to call this fucntion.

Working on a project at the moment where I could really do with having the LIDAR/3d scan data from Google earth in the background. I've tried using some (apparently) old software called 3D Ripper DX which just seems to crash google earth for me. I've browsed to forums a bit and many people have asked this, but the 3D ripper DX software appeared to be the choice in the past, but as I said; not working for me.

Another solution may be to experiment with a free photogrammetry software and feed it with lots of pictures from google earth, perhaps that will do? Just a though, not sure if it would work. If you do discover something that works, it would be nice if you share your findings!

I tried 3DF Zephyr, a free photogrammetry program that looked promising and fed it 44 pictures taken from google earth in the browser, and got this result. The geometry seems to be even more deformed than what appears in google earth, but at least it works. Would perhaps not use it for anything except background geometry in a scene.

pretty stratightforward. open google earth pro, find your site, has to have 3d buildings on obviously. Incrementally orbit/rotate around the site (shift + arrow key), save each screenshot, maybe about 30-40 rotates at most. Open recap, load the images, build the model, export it to 3dsmax, scale it up to your unit size and voila... simples good luck!

hello again i need help to get empire earth to working on windows 98. after i got the game installed and tried to run it it gives me the dd help illegal operation error message. i seen this in my other builds with windows 98 and me with the same result. i am aware is a direct x issue and the only way i manage to fix it is reinstalled the os again without formatted it but i don't want to resort to doing that. do i need to install a older version of direct x to get it working properly? its currently on direct x 8.1

I'm using Windows 8.1 and the game works flawlessly, I just had to make the Options.ini file (you can use notepad to make it) inside "C:\Users(your computer username here)\AppData\Roaming\My Battle for Middle-earth Files

If the directx version doesn't ship with the Steam version, you can download the demo of Avernum from Spiderweb's site and request a registration key from Jeff, the lead programmer. He's pretty cool about these things usually.

First of all, when I Geolocated the building on the surface of the earth in Sketchup, it imported floating in the air in Google Earth. I then relocated the building underground and it shows up better on Google Earth BUT as I move around the building in Google Earth the building popups up and down about 10 feet.
