UPDATE 3/19: We have expanded the rollout introducing the ability to use your Android phone or tablet camera in any video application on your Windows 11 PC to all Windows Insiders across all Insider Channels.

Unintuitively, the icon in the upper left that looks like it's meant to switch between your front and back camera will also cycle through your other attached cameras. At least, this worked for me on a Surface Pro 4 (front and rear camera) with a USB Microsoft LifeCam attached. The Camera application's version is listed as 2018.227.30.1000.

Use your phone's camera as a wireless webcam in your PC or Mac.
Install Webcam for Windows, Mac or Linux, download Iriun Webcam app to your mobile phone and start using the phone with your favourite video applications.

Panasonic has released the LUMIX Webcam Software (Beta) for Windows / Mac, a one-stop webcam software making it possible to use an applicable LUMIX camera as an webcam for purposes such as live streaming or video conferencing. It is easy to feed the camera view over a USB connection in optimum output resolution (1280x960 or 1280x720) according to the application for live streaming or video conferencing. No extra device is needed.

Hello, I bought an Inspiron (Windows 10) recently, I'm having issues with the webcam brightness. I have the brightness setting turned all the way up, but when I add more lighting in the room around me the camera brightens for a moment and then darkens. I searched online and found the instruction to uncheck the "automatically adjust color when lighting changes" option, but that function isn't available on my laptop. I also looked at changing the power settings, there isn't an option for it there either. Please help! I need to figure out how to make the lighting brighter, this is a job-related issue for my work from home gig that I need to fix asap! I thought about buying an attachable webcam, but I'm not sure that would fix the issue?

Can I just say that this solution is the one that works. If you go to Webcam Properties in Skype, that is not actually a Skype settings page, but the master properties for your webcam. I changed the settings in there and they scan through to all other software I use my webcam with (I actually had Zoom open with the webcam displaying through that whilst editing, and the results happen live.

I am having a similar issue with the work-issued Dell laptop. It's clearly a camera driver or settings software bug. The webcam lighting sensor keeps adjusting the video brightness every few seconds, up and down the scale [from too dark to overexposed], while the light in my room is not changing at all. It's really annoying to me and others.

I'm also having this issue. I just bought my laptop (Inspiron 7405 2-in-1) about a month ago and I noticed it when I bought a selfie ring light. I teach virtual Zumba classes, so the lighting for my students is very important so they can see my moves and cueing. But I noticed that whenever I moved, the camera would automatically change the lighting. There aren't any options for the camera or in the power settings to turn it off.

I am working with Dell support but no progress so far. They are asking me to update drivers, a generic move. I installed the Support Assist software and it ran tests identifying some but not related to the camera. I am not able to apply these for now since my company constraints my admin rights. They should be able to point out if and when was this bug fixed. I have multiple computers and this only occurs no this Dell laptop.

Same issue here on a Precision 3540 and 3550. The webcam will overexpose and the brightness goes way too high and slowly comes back down. It does this randomly. Working with level 3 support so far has not helped. Has anyone been able to fix the issue?

I do not know why but on my laptop (Acer Aspire 3) the usb webcam works with python opencv only if I plug it in the right side usb of my laptop and NOT if I plug it in the left side usb. So try plugging the webcam on all the usb ports you have. (I also had to use cam = cv2.VideoCapture(2) as @Slayahh suggested.

I've tried this example for UWP, while I was able to control the focus of my camera with some modifications, it only allows that control if it gets full access to the camera, which it doesn't have if I open OBS up first.

If your Sony camera has the USB Streaming feature, it is the easiest method to live stream as you can receive video and audio through the camera. Another option to consider is Imaging Edge Webcam software. Check your operation manuals for detailed information and live streaming compatibility.

If the Sony Camera (Imaging Edge) selection doesn't appear in the camera settings of the web conferencing system or the live view screen isn't displayed even after the camera setting is switched, the web conferencing system may not be compatible. If the web conferencing system is available in both an app and a browser, try both.

If you don't have a laptop with a built-in webcam or an external webcam or simply want to make the most of your digital camera capabilities (like aperture adjusting for blurring your background), there is a way to adapt your digital camera as a webcam.

In this tutorial you will learn how to use Canon DSLR or Nikon DSLR camera as a regular webcam with the help of SparkoCam. SparkoCam is the software that allows you to turn your Canon or Nikon camera into a standard webcam for video chats, conferencing, recordings, etc.

Also, if you installed software that comes on a CD that is shipped with the camera, you may get EOS Utility started up. SparkoCam doesn't require EOS Utility to function properly, so just close it and go to next steps.

Please note that Canon and Nikon cameras don't provide functionality for using their microphones for audio capturing, so it won't be possible to use camera's built-in microphone for sound, thus you need an external microphone to enable voice.

If you need a webcam in a hurry to make a video conference or teach online, it is clever to use your iPhone camera as a temporary webcam for your PC. Of course, if you have one unused iPhone or iPad, you definitely can set it up as your dedicated PC camera, which is smart and eco-friendly.

Step 1: Connect your iPhone to your Mac with a cable. And tap Trust when you see the prompt on the table. Then mount your iPhone on a stand or a mount. And make sure the rear camera is facing you in landscape orientation.

After connecting, setting up, and using your iPhone as a webcam, there are several ways to help you look good on the video source list of most popular platforms, including Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, Skype, OBS Studio, Twitch, Discord, YouTube Live, Twitch, etc.

Today's webcams provide us with a virtual experience that's as close to the real in-person experience as possible. However, quality of imaging devices, their components, and optimizations can vary quite a bit, and this ultimately translates into overall experience quality.

One of the most commonly asked questions is, "Why do I need an external web camera when my computer has one already built in?" A built-in camera can be useful, and for at-home use it's fine. But when it comes to quality of performance in enterprise organizations, an internal webcam may not be up to par compared to an external or "plug-and play" webcam. Below is a quick comparison between an external webcam and a built-in webcam

Arguably, using an external camera as your default camera is preferable in terms of video call quality and overall experience. But as this is a troubleshooting guide for all webcams, we'll start with some problems and fixes for a built-in camera.

Antivirus software can sometimes affect the ability of your webcam to work, and may not allow the camera to turn on to avoid unauthorized access. Check the settings in your software or check the antivirus software company's website for more information. Usually all you need to do is allow access in the antivirus software by white-listing your webcam in the Privacy Settings.

To update the webcam driver software, go to Device Manager and find the webcam device under the "Cameras", "Imaging devices" or "Sound, video and game controllers" branch and right-click it, then select "Update device driver" from the contextual menu.

The following USB video device issues and fixes are similar to what you'd do with built-in webcams, such as the install/uninstall driver option. But additionally you'll have the support of the hardware and devices troubleshooter pertaining to your particular brand of camera.

If your webcam is older, it may no longer work with Windows 10 or 11, or after you've done a Windows update. The best way to find out is going through camera properties in the Device Manager. If in the driver details button, there is a file with name stream.sys, then you need to replace your webcam.

If you open the Device Manager and don't see your camera listed, use the "Scan for hardware changes" option. It's possible that your desktop computer or other device failed to detect the camera when you plugged it in, so it doesn't show up in the system.

Hybrid work is here to stay. The webcam test is useful for checking the functionality and picture quality of your webcam. Most people use it to verify if their webcam is working properly before participating in video conferencing and video calls in programs like Zoom or Skype.

This free tool could be useful if you don't have such an app, or if you want to get the extra information about your webcam - the information you could see in the Camera Information box.
