VIPRE Email Archiving enables organizations to quickly and efficiently respond to internal and external requests for email data. An independent email archive solution ensures uninterrupted business continuity even when the mail service is down. As the source of these archived emails is entirely separate from the email service, if the service is disrupted, the archive will remain accessible, allowing users to access all historical emails. Employees can access their archived emails even from their mobile devices without storing sensitive data on the device.

Select a mailbox to receive non-delivery reports before you enable journaling. This should be an email account that you do not use for anything else, as emails to and from this address will not be journaled.

Data Guardians are email addresses to which transcripts of administrator access and privileged user searches will be sent. At least one data guardian must be added before adding any local user accounts.

Privileged Users can search across the archives and all emails in their organization's system unless one or more searchable domains are added. Any searches made by Privileged users will raise an audit transcript that is sent to the Data Guardian(s).

Basic Users have access to one or more email addresses/inboxes specified for their account. A basic user is not normally audited, but basic accounts can be set up to view any number of different user mailboxes, by entering several secondary email addresses that relate to other mailboxes. In this mode, the basic account should be audited. It is recommended to ensure that the auditing options are used when creating such an account.

The Outbound Email & Alerts section allows you to configure settings for emails going out of the VIPRE Email Archiving server as well as setting alerts for outbound emails with details such as:

Refreshing the page should result in the Processed count increasing. Agents 0-5 will show a small-time indication that there have been new incoming emails or there are new emails still coming into the mailbox.

By default, indexes refresh every 30 minutes or as defined. Once you've confirmed that mail is being processed, click Let Recent Mail Become Searchable to refresh the indexes and enable users to search emails that were processed within the last 30 minutes.

Vipre Email Security Phishing Protection (aka ClickSMART) provides another level of defense against phishing and ransomware attacks by protecting email recipients from clicking on dangerous URLs. URLs are rewritten, allowing them to be scanned at the time of the click. Malicious URL clicks are blocked. This protects your users and network from phishing, spear phishing, spoofing, and ransomware attacks. Administrators may choose to warn users of the risk or block the click entirely. In addition, the user warning and block alerts can be customized as desired.

Seamlessly protect the confidentiality and integrity of emails and attachments while in transit, in use, or in storage with Vipre Email Encryption (aka EncryptSMART). Administrators can configure custom policies to trigger encryption or use a set of pre-defined policies based on industry. This ensures sensitive information is always encrypted without relying on users to do so. The message body and any attachments are encrypted using OpenSSL with AES-256-CBCL and are transported via TLS. The message may only be accessed by the email recipient using a unique message link that is sent and linked to his/her email address. In addition, the recipient must enter a password to access the decrypted message through Vipre's safe and secure web portal.

Manage Vipre Email Security users from your LDAP system. New users in LDAP are automatically added to Vipre Email Security while disabled or deleted users are autmatically removed. Email aliases are automatically mapped from LDAP secondary email address data. The sync process can be scheduled every 6, 12, or 24 hours, every three days or weekly. If immediate sync is needed, the Vipre Email Security Suite administrator may use the Sync Now action to immediately sync any LDAP changes with the Vipre Email Security system. Network traffic for the sync process is minimized by placing a directory service sync agent local to the LDAP directory service. Data that is transmitted to Vipre Email Security Suite is a subset of the LDAP data.

Managed Antivirus provides real-time protection through Protection Policy: Active Protection scanning files as they are opened, copied and downloaded. You can also run and schedule scans to detect and remove malware from the device.

Rootkits are not malicious in nature. For example, systems and even some applications hide critical files using rootkits. However, they are mostly used to hide malware or to conceal the presence of an intruder into the system. When combined with malware, rootkits pose a great threat to the integrity and the security of a system. They can monitor traffic, create backdoors into the system, alter files and logs and avoid detection.

Archives - Archives containing infected files are not an immediate threat to the security of your system. The malware can affect your system only if the infected file is extracted from the archive and executed without having real-time Active Protection enabled. However, it is recommended to use this option in order to detect and remove any potential threat, even if it is not an immediate threat.

Note: Scanning archived files increases the overall scanning time and requires more system resources. Archives are scanned to a depth of 3 levels only. This prevents 'Archive Bombs' (an archive within an archive within another and so on to ) from causing scans to get stuck trying to scan ever deeper - meaning it cannot tackle a different threat.
