Hi everybody!
This is a reminder for everyone that today at 19 UTC the proposals submissions for your projects opens. Remember that you can follow the GSoC calendar here: http://www.google-melange.com/gsoc/homepage/google/gsoc2013

Up to now, you (we!) have been marking which are our candidate projects in the gsoc2013.esug.org website. Now it's time to write a formal proposal about how are we planning to develop the project. Check the FAQ at Melange here: http://www.google-melange.com/gsoc/document/show/gsoc_program/google/gsoc2013/help_page#5._What_should_a_student_proposal_look.
Notice that ESUG separates the proposal and the biography, but for Google you need to have both as part of your proposal, so do as Janko said and fill your biography ASAP :)

The deadline for the proposals submissions is May 3rd. Without this proposals your application will not be valid!

In previous years, the proposals followed this template:
  1. How will I do the project
  2. What methodologies will I use
  3. Suggested timeline and milestones (Pay attention to the midterm evaluations!)
  4. Where I see the risks
  5. How the results will look like
Here is a link to a successful proposal by Guille Polito from last year's GSoC: http://gsoc2012.esug.org/projects/bootstrapping%20the%20core/proposal

When writing the proposal for a project, have in mind that the proposal is the tools mentors have to evaluate if you're up to the task or not. You should also show drafts to your mentors before the submission deadline so they can give you feedback and you can tune your proposal as much as you can.

So good luck everybody! Go and start working on your proposals!

Cheers,
Carla.

Hello, when I try to log with my google info, I got this error back

request for unknown or nonexistent context!

Do you have any clue why ?

Thanks in advance,
Ben

Cheers,
Carla.

Dear students,

Just to add few more words to Carla's instructions:

1. You should be first invited to make a proposal, invited by your mentor from our GSoC site. Invitations will start today and if invited, you'll see that on your profile at our GSoC page and on projects you expressed an interest.

2.after invitation start writing a proposal on our GSoC site first, in the meanwile register and prepare everything needed on Google Melange. Later you will just copy your bio and proposal from our site to Melange.

3. The proposal template Carla mentioned you'll find on our site while you'll open a proposal, similar as was with bio page.

4. If you'd like to prepare your own project proposal and not choose from existing projects, then send the proposal to me ASAP. For a template see how other projects are written. Then we need to find a mentor and second mentor for you. In any case such student proposals are very welcome!

5. If you will not be invited, please don't give up! First try to express an interest to some other project (where invitations were not yet sent). Mentors also won't decide immediatelly who to invite, this will take a while. So again, don't give up, follow the happenings all those two weeks.

Best regards
Janko
