Jakarta Namespace and Java 11

Hi all,

We plan to release Jakarta compatible binaries for all SmallRye projects. Every SmallRye project will have its major version updated.

For now, the main branch will still use javax and in parallel, we will have a jakarta branch with the namespace move. All development and releases will still happen in the main branch and when required, move to the jakarta branch. This is expected to last until Wildfly and Quarkus move to the jakarta namespace. From that point forward, the jakarta namespace will move to main, and javax will be in maintenance mode.

With the move to jakarta, the plan is also to drop Java 8 support and move to Java 11. There are no plans to update to Java 11 APIs during the transition period. Once the jakarta namespace moves to main, these changes may start to occur.

We already released SR Commons 2.0.0-RC1 and SR Config 3.0.0-RC1 which are jakarta compatible.

Thanks a lot, Roberto! I already integrated SR Config 3.0.0-RC1 into "my" Jakarta Branch (https://github.com/guhilling/cdi-test). Everything works fine (See https://github.com/guhilling/cdi-test/actions/runs/1636917625).

SmallRye Health 4.0.0-RC1 based on the above commons and config RC1s and passing MicroProfile Health 4.0 TCK is released.

- SmallRye Metrics 4.0.0-RC1

- SmallRye Fault Tolerance 6.0.0-RC1

- SmallRye JWT 4.0.0-RC1

- SmallRye OpenAPI 3.0.0-RC1

- SmallRye OpenTracing 3.0.0-RC1

- SmallRye Health 4.0.0-RC1

- SmallRye Commons 2.0.0-RC1

Hi Koki,

The plan is to align the final releases with Jakarta 10 (which is planned to the end of Q2). If there are no delays in Jakarta 10, which should be able to provide our final released by Q2 as well.
