Hi District sisters and brothers,

I have a couple of things coming up that you might find of interest...

I will be speaking at Takoma Park Presbyterian church on Sunday 2/26,
basically a reprise of my December teach-in at McPherson Square. The
topic is scriptural stories of resistance to oppression, including
both uprisings and community organizing. For an example of what I
mean, here's a blog post:
http://nehemian.wordpress.com/2011/12/14/meet-our-new-king/
It's for their adult education class, which starts at 9:30 and lasts
an hour (so you can make it back for second service). I'll be staying
for the service and then probably grabbing lunch and visiting the
farmers market. The church is at 310 Tulip St. (From Takoma metro head
east on Carroll, turn left at Maple, go one block).

I've also recently become involved with a group called Occupy Church.
http://occupychurchdc.org/ It is new and small, but growing rapidly.
And more importantly, it seems juicy. The Spirit is definitely moving
in this crowd. One angle we are discussing is to explore the Move Your
Money phenomenon from a Christian perspective, equipping ourselves to
make banking choices that are more aligned with our values of justice.
We are also discussing a Passion Play with corporate centurions, most
likely on the 4th of July. So there's study, substantial change and a
little bit of spectacle. Let me know if you are interested in joining
up or just put yourself on the listserve through the website. We have
regular Saturday brunch meetings near 16th & H Northeast - starting at
10:30 and going a couple of hours including worship and a little bit
of a meeting. We also have a planning meeting one Thursday evening a
month, although that may shift a bit as we get organized.

I hope you all are well.

Take care,
Andrew
