I’m writing to you today from my desk at Animal Equality’s office in Mexico to tell you an important truth–the pig industry is lying to you. They show you pictures of green pastures and animals living happily. However, as I have witnessed and documented myself, the life of a pig is a horrible life.
I believe you have the right to know what the industry is hiding. That's why investigations are at the core of what we do. We believe in showing the facts and letting you see and judge what happens for yourself.
Today I want to share with you our newest investigation of a pig farm in Jalisco, Mexico. You’ll see what the first days of life are like for pigs born on factory farms.
I’ll warn you that in Mexico, like many other countries, there are no laws to ensure the welfare of farmed animals. As a result, the living conditions and mutilations you’ll see are common practices in the industry.
Pigs are highly intelligent and sensitive animals, similar to the dogs we share our homes with. Even though there are no relevant differences between them, one is killed for food while the other is considered family.
Animals raised for food experience inconceivable suffering. I've seen days old piglets have their testicles removed and tails cut off without anesthesia. And it’s done without the supervision of a veterinarian who can immediately attend to any emergencies that put the piglet at risk.
This can’t continue to happen.
This unimaginable suffering is why animals urgently need us to act to protect them. Through our undercover investigations, we can show state institutions the reality animals face in farms and slaughterhouses, and we can persuade them to prevent and punish animal cruelty. Our individual actions are absolutely critical too, Dianne–we’ll only be able to end the abuse and suffering of animals in factory farms and slaughterhouses if we also make compassionate choices and choose to leave animals off our plates.
Dianne, please watch and share this investigation to speak out against this cruelty and help us fight for the legal protection of all farmed animals.
With your commitment, a time will come when pigs and other animals used for food will no longer suffer at the hands of such a cruel industry.
In gratitude,
Dulce RamírezVice President Latin America
P.S. Dianne, our new investigation shows that pigs in Mexico are victims of unthinkable cruelty from the day they’re born. Please watch and share our investigation to raise public awareness and support of legal protection for pigs and other farmed animals.
