Hey there,
I suppose it's been out "officially" for a week or two now, but I am pleased to officially announce the release of the latest (and greatest) full length from Sky Burial.
Sky Burial: There I Saw The Grey Wolf Gaping CD
“There I Saw The Grey Wolf Gaping” marks a return to the shorter compostions which comprised Sky Burial’s first few releases. These tracks reflect the width and breadth of sounds which inspire Sky Burial’s brand of sonic eclecticism, from kosmische/krautrock, music concrete, and early industrial to shoegaze, ambient/drone, and avant-garde composers. Athough inspired by diverse genres, Sky Burial has created a cohesive sound of its own, often citing esoteric and mythological subject matter as a muse. This album features guest artists Danny Hyde (Coil), Jarboe, Anni Hogan (Marc and The Mambas/Willing Sinners), Jóhann Eiriksson (Gjöll, Reptilicus), Bridget Wishart (Hawkwind), Troum, Xiphoid Dementia and piper Craig McFarlane. This is the first Sky Burial album to make use of vocals and vocal intonations on several tracks. Edition of 500 copies packaged in Arigato packs with an 8-panel poster. The first 50 copies (small doses has ~20) include a 3" cdr with an exclusive bonus track. Co-released by First Light.
"Highly atmospheric, dark ambient, with small bits of rhythm carefully placed all over the scene, effective use of reverb, makes this yet again a particular strong album" - Vital Weekly
"There I Saw the Grey Wolf Gaping is an impressive bit of work" -Hypnagogue
"Previous Sky Burial albums have always been exceptional pieces of dark ambient experimentation and drift, but There I Saw the Grey Wolf Gaping pulls those pieces together into what comes across as a more fully realized album. It is no slight against those previous works, but here it just all comes together exceptionally well." - Creaig Dunton, Brainwashed.com
Andy Grant (Vomit Arsonist, Bereft) made an excellent video for the opening track, Incatare (featuring Jarboe and Troum). Check it out:
Along with the new CD, we have excellent new Sky Burial T-Shirts to offer. They are two sided, discharge printed (meaning nice and soft) Gildan shirts. There aren't a lot of them, so get one while you can.
