It's already April, the snow is melting, and we had a solid rainstorm up here last night. But, we've got more snow on the way, so who knows? In any case, it's a little late to be offering up the first new release of 2013, but that's precisely why I am writing. 

The new one is somewhat of an old one. It is the cassette version of the debut of Blood Folke released on CD last year. The cassette version is released in conjunction with the phenomenal label A Terre records, a fellow Twin Cities-based record label. If you have not checked this band out yet, this is a great (and inexpensive) way to do so. This cassette is limited to 100 numbered copies, so don't sleep on it.

i checked these guys out when I found out my band was playing a show with them. I managed to find their demo and a live show (their first) online. I honestly listened to nothing else for about 4 days. After playing with them (their second show) I was totally blown away, and I asked if I could work on this release with them. Blood Folke is an incredible three-piece from the Twin Cities. They bring together a host of influences to form one of the most unique sounds I've heard in metal in years. Dan Wieken's doom-laden guitar riffs and uneartly vocals blend with Lauren Gaffney's discordant viola. Both are rounded out with Bryan Pierson's precise pounding to form a cohesive, blend of doom, post-rock, and black metal. The cassette version of this 4-song debut is co-released by A Terre records in an edition of 100 numbered copies.
