Greetings - We are looking for established protocols, templates, checklists for assessing international travel proposals.  These are non-academic trips typically related to sports teams or art/music programs gaining international experience.

Is this managed by your Study Abroad Office?  Who approves the trips and monitors international travel bans, etc?

If you are able to share, you can send attachments or links directly to me at dela...@southwestern.edu.

Greatly appreciate your assistance,
Michael

Hi Michael,

We don't have a Study Abroad Office so everything goes through my office which handles risk management. I've attached the preparatory checklist our faculty is to use. I research and monitor the safety of the locations being visited and any restrictions. The dean of the program's division approves the trip but only after the risk management ok to move forward. If there's a dispute as to whether the group should or shouldn't go, the VP of Academic Affairs makes the decision.

Hope you find this helpful,
Marcene

Hi Michael –

We are also struggling with this topic as well as how to manage the overall international travel with a lean staff.

Currently, the study abroad office (office of 2) in conjunction with Athletics manages teams traveling abroad.

Thanks for the information!

Hoping after the break we might hear from others in the group.

Have a happy and safe holiday.

Michael
