You can use an in-line volume control with the headphones. My Latitude with IDT audio does not have the headphone volume problem that many of the Realtek laptops have, but I use a Koss control just because it is convenient. It is a short extension cable for headphone with a volume attenuation slider built in.
As far as drivers, Dell has only released one for your model for Win7. The only other Realtek drivers would be on the Realtek site. You can also use the Windows native audio driver. To switch to it from the Realtek, do this:
Thank you, jimco. Switching to the Windows native audio driver lowered the noise significantly - it is barely noticeable now. The sound is also less loud, so I can adjust the speaker volume to 20-30 instead of 1-3. :emotion-1: It is strange, all sounds are lowered so it may indeed be from the hardware, but now it's much better.
My daughter's Compaq laptop has a real Realtek Audio Manager but it has far fewer settings than the one in your screen shot which is from a desktop computer. You have many of the same controls in the Windows Sound properties, and most audio applications have similar eq functions. I think the main use of the Audio Manager (Dell or Realtek) on Dell laptops is to control WavesMaxx audio. I don't know if your laptop model has that feature, but if it does it is only installed along with the Realtek driver, not the native driver, and its controls are all in the manager.
Realtek HD Audio Manager (Realtek High Definition Audio Manager) is the application used to control sound play on Windows computers. It acts as a control panel for your audio adapters. When you add new microphones/speakers/headsets, etc. to your computer, Realtek HD Audio Manager will automatically detects them and let you set up them.
A couple of days ago, I installed Realtek drivers to fix an issue with my sound. Ssince then I've noticed that my microphone has been really quiet, but there's no Realtek audio manager where I can find it. There is an EXE for it, however opening said executable doesn't work either. I've heard this is an issue often on Windows 10, however none of the fixes I've tried work. I've attempted restarting my PC, reinstalling it multiple times, I would've tried rolling back but that's not an option because of the reinstalls, etc. I'm on the latest Windows 10 version 1903 with the Realtek drivers version 6.3.9600.2240 (the latest it seems).
If you open the device manager and select the audio controller in the list, go to its properties, instead of rolling back, go to Update Driver and select "Browse my computer for driver software" then you should be presented with a list of previous drivers you used. Select the first one which is the one that worked. You can do this for both Realtek and the default controller but you might want to uninstall everything, restart and then follow the steps above although it should work without uninstalling it.
Yes, the speaker configuration is set to 5.1. Everything checks out when I test each of the speakers, including the subwoofer, but they don't work when I play anything outside of the test noises for the Realtek Audio manager.

In addition to automatic updates, which customers can turn off, the audio manager will provide adjustable settings including an audio equalizer, audio processing levels and other settings for interoperability with third-party devices. This will give customers more control of their audio experience.
The Nureva audio manager is available now to HDL300 audio conferencing system customers at no additional charge. An update with the additional functionality and adjustable settings will be available in spring 2018.
