VMLite VNC Server allows the remote view and control of android phone or tablet from a desktop computer or from another mobile device using the popular VNC protocol. This app works on rooted and non-rooted android devices. However, for non-rooted devices, every time after a reboot, a re-connecting of the device to a Windows PC or Mac using a USB cable, then run a free desktop program, VMLite Android App Controller, to start the server on the device has to be done. Once the server is started, the device can be disconnected.

See and control your computer's desktop from your phone, from anywhere. androidVNC is the Open Source (GPL) remote desktop program for Android devices. Connects to most VNC servers: incl TightVNC, RealVNC on Win and Linux, x11vnc, and Apple Remote Desktop on OS/X.

Currently the way the VMlite VNC server and their app for the local machine they're connected to via USB allows VNC access to the machines over the USB connection. This connection is accessible to the local machine via the network address:

So my question is the following:How do I set up the machine so that I can forward traffic from the USB ports to be accessible across the network?Alternatively is there some kind of browser plugin that allows me to open webpages as if I was viewing them from a different machine on the network?(keep in mind that a typical proxy server set up did not work, as browsing to http ://localhost seems to cause problems)

Looking for low hanging fruit, we find a host machine running an interesting web server on TCP port 8080, a port commonly used for administrative purposes. Using Firefox, we can connect to the server via HTTP over TCP port 8080.

I'm not sure if you can convert it straight for use with the VMPlayer though. You could always throw the free version of ESXi on an old server (or PC for that matter, as long as the controller and NIC are recognized) and convert it to that and then export it for use with VMPlayer.

I give this background because I need to make sure that you guys know that I'm not exactly new to the IT world. My job does not require me to know how containers work but I want to know how because I feel like this small environment would benefit from them but I just can't seem to understand how or why I should implement them. I get that it is a lot better than running a ton of VMs but how is it better than just installing the apps on a single server in the first place? Why containerize. I feel like I'm not getting the scope of things.

Background. We have 1 web app. In essence, it is an IIS web app that connects to a SQL database and runs through a workflow engine. Our 3 environments include, Dev, Stage, Production. Our Dev environment has 6 versions of the app running. Dev1, Dev2, Dev3, Dev4, Dev5, Dev6. Stage has another 2. And prod obviously has 1(well clustered on 2 servers). Code is ran through the chain of apps for testing, I don't fully know this part because I am not a developer. What this looks like is we have IIS installed on the Web server that has all 6 instances of the app. Those web apps talk to their corresponding database on the Database Server.
