Everything changes for me after I have sex with a guy. I used to be ashamed to say that because I felt I wasn't revolutionary or badass enough to survive in this hook-up world or that saying it rendered me a weakling, the kind that can't evolve and dies off with the rest of the dinosaurs.

Jesus, though, how could sex not change it all? Especially in situations where you're habitually having sex with a person, it's just natural to have that person grow on you. In fact, I'd go so far as to say it's completely unnatural if the person you're having sex with every weekend doesn't grow on you. If that's you, you must be some sort of heartless robot.

That's why I'm done with this stuff. Because you end up catching feelings for some dimwit you probably wouldn't have caught feelings for if you hadn't slept with him, and then he screws you over because he never wanted you in any real capacity to begin with. (Seriously, that's how it happened for me ages ago. A guy went from a friend to a lover and just like that, I turned into a weepy mess who couldn't keep her shit together on Monday mornings at work.)

Wrapped in your sheets wondering why he left as quickly as he did, you stare at the door longingly like an inside puppy who's been forced to go outside. And then you spend the following weeks trying to snap out of a funk that, well, you really didn't need to be in.

And you know what? That girl crying into her pillowcase, mascara smeared down her face and all, isn't me. I'm independent as all hell. I hate that sex turns me codependent, silly putty, a woman on the verge. That's why I'm not really having sex right now (aside from the occasional drunken phone call to one of the many fuckboys in my roster).

I used to sleep with a man whenever I felt fireworks. But I need more than just fireworks now, and that's only something you learn after sleeping with one too many men who spark a fire but can't follow through. So now, I'm the woman who withholds.

It isn't that I'm trying to use my sexuality as a tool to tease men, per se. It has less to do with them and more to do with me. I absolutely refuse to put myself in a position of such vulnerability with someone who can't handle being vulnerable.

Can we stop pretending that sex -- real, we-know-each-other sex, not the one-and-done, jackhammer one-night stand -- doesn't muddy the waters? Because it does. Sex changes everything, and some of us just aren't up for that. When you're not having sex, you are in control. And it just so happens that I like being in control.

From now on, I'll only be letting a man pepper my special lady parts if he's equally as special and promises to carry my heart with both his hands, not just one. What can I say? A girl's gotta protect herself.

I am and always will be a hopeless romantic at heart, but I feel out of place in a world that no longer encourages falling madly in love without using a middleman known as Tinder. Until I meet the man of my dreams, I'll be sexless but powerful, a devoted workaholic, a girl who wants to have sex but really is just afraid of the repercussions.

We examined the co-occurrence of and risk factors for adolescent boys' and girls' self-reported use of psychologically, physically, and sexually abusive behaviours in their dating relationships. The participants were 324 boys and 309 girls in grades 7, 9, or 11 who completed surveys at school. Descriptive analyses showed that 19% of boys and 26% of girls reported having used two or more forms of dating violence. One third of students in grade 7 had already used at least one form of aggressive behaviour in this context. Canonical correlation analyses indicated that boys' and girls' use of multiple forms of dating violence were predicted by their attitudes toward and experiences with violence. After controlling for general abusiveness, boys' use of sexually abusive behaviour and girls' use of psychologically abusive behaviour were linked to specific risk factors that suggest an enactment of social scripts associated with their respective gender roles.

Are you longing for a girl? Do you already have a one boy or more and now want to see if you can tip the gender balance in your household? There are lots of theories and claims made about influencing the chances of having either a boy or a girl baby, but the scientific facts are absolutely clear. The chances of having a boy or a girl are almost exactly equal for each and every pregnancy. Even though some couples only seem to make boys, or girls, this patterning owes more to luck than management.

If you are keen to have a girl, then you need to think about, plan for and execute your strategy to include exactly how and when you are going to have sex. Forget just waiting to see what happens or being relaxed about it.

Bear in mind that in order to maximise your chances of conceiving either a boy or a girl then you need to have produced an egg which the sperm can then fertilise. Having lots of sex throughout your cycle will provide you with the best chances of having any baby. If you limit the opportunity for conception to occur this will in turn, reduce your chances of having either a boy or a girl.

There is some science to support the theory that women who have a higher energy intake in their diets are more likely to have boys. More kilojoules per day favours those little boys it seems. So the reverse may be true to help boost the chances of having a girl. Just remember, there are no guarantees.

While all teens reported increasing mental health challenges, experiences of violence, and suicidal thoughts and behaviors, girls fared worse than boys across nearly all measures. The new report also confirms ongoing and extreme distress among teens who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, or questioning (LGBQ+).

The report also found more than half (52%) of LGBQ+ students had recently experienced poor mental health and, concerningly, that more than 1 in 5 (22%) attempted suicide in the past year. Trend data are not available for students who identify as LGBQ+ due to changes in survey methods.

Findings by race and ethnicity also show high and worsening levels of persistent sadness or hopelessness across all racial and ethnic groups; and that reported suicide attempts increased among Black youth and White youth.

The gaps are starker in countries affected by fragility, conflict, and violence (FCV). In FCV countries, girls are 2.5 times more likely to be out of school than boys, and at the secondary level, are 90% more likely to be out of secondary school than those in non-FCV contexts.

Both girls and boys are facing a learning crisis. Learning Poverty (LP) measures the share of children who are not able to read proficiently at age 10. While girls are on average 4 percentage points less learning-poor than boys, the rates remain very high for both groups. The average of Learning Poverty in in low- and middle- income countries is 55% for females, and 59% for males. The gap is narrower in low-income countries, where Learning Poverty averages about 93% for both boys and girls.

In many countries, enrollment in tertiary education slightly favors young women, however, better learning outcomes are not translating into better work and life outcomes for women. There is a large gender gap in labor force participation rates globally. It is especially stark in regions such as South Asia and the Middle East and North Africa, which have some of the lowest female labor force participation rates at 24% and 20% per region, respectively. These are appallingly low rates, considering what is observed in other regions like Latin America (53%) or East Asia (59%), which are still below rates for men.

The World Bank is committed to seeing every girl prosper in her life. Our projects support the education of hundreds of millions of girls and young women across the world. Working through interventions in education, health, social protection, water, infrastructure, and other sectors, we are making an even stronger commitment to support countries in ensuring that every girl receives the quality education she deserves.

2015 has been a tremendous year in the advancement of LGBT rights throughout the world. Governments and populaces have let it be known that the treatment of LGBT people as second-class citizens will no longer stand. It is high time that public health initiatives catch up.

The Human Papilloma Virus vaccination programme began with the intention of reducing new cases of cervical cancer, a disease of sexually active cis-gendered women. However, increasingly, and as demonstrated by this article by Boogards et al., there is evidence that administration of this vaccine to men who have sex with men (MSM) is important in reducing oropharyngeal and anal cancers.
