You mentioned earlier that your donors would only be willing to donate
to a 501(c)3 organization for tax deductibility purposes. I would
suggest that they donate directly to the main VDay fund instead here:

Also, videotaping is not allowed, so the producers will need to make
sure that SLCN does NOT archive this event. It will be exactly as SLCN
want it -- a live event, simulcasted. Alternatively, I may be able to
talk BotSL to simulSim/simulBot this event.
I think the fact that this event will not be recorded may gain more
ticket buyers -- this can be advertised as a once in a lifetime
event... miss it and miss out! (Also, how do people purchase tickets
in advance?)
Finally, we will need to decide on beneficiaries - producers and
admins, please log into the V-spot to look through the list of VDay
beneficiaries our funds will go to. Shael suggests that if we require
501(c)3, we can contact the beneficiaries directly.
Lastly, yes, sLiterary is a nonprofit in California. However, because
we are a SL endeavor, and the IRS basically goes crazy if we raise
more than $10,000 or so a year, I can't authorize that VDay donations
goes to sLiterary only to be transferred to the above beneficiaries
(and it wouldn't make much sense for the double-counting, first
sLiterary losing "credit", and then the beneficiary losing "credit").
As I've mentioned, when a nonprofit receives a donation, they are
required to report it to the IRS. When their sum of donations exceed
$10,000 (more or less), they have to file for another "tier" which
generally means another hefty application fee and paperwork aplenty.
It would not make sense for donations to go to one charity, only to
have the charity transfer it to another charity. Both charities would
get their "tier" counted... "double-counted." I hope that makes sense.
I will try to explain it differently if you are still confused.
This is the point I was trying to make in the email I just sent about
beneficiaries and fiscal sponsors. If you want a tax deduction on your
donation, it would make sense that you directly network with the
beneficiary to arrange for fiscal sponsorship.
I encourage the producers whose names are listed on the page look this
information up directly on VSpot:
