Order of Events and who wants to handle what?

What is a fantastic idea now has to be pulled into some type of order
as everyone has great ideas and we are all getting a bit out of
control.

I see PR as needing to be handled in 3 parts:

1. In-world = Second Life
2. Out-world = Physical Life
3. Cross-World = SL, Pl, Myspace, Flickr, blogs, websites and the
offical Vday.org website.

Poppy McDunnough has agreed to handle sponsor spreadsheets, she is a
Wizard at excel and I have asked Ada to add her to the group. She is
also a flickr memeber.

I have spoken to Erlic and he can make a tip jar, (donation jar) that
can send funds to a given avatar that would free ToryLynn from having
to login as VdayAccountant to rez jars. The sponsor can rez them from
a Promotion kit themselves and donations would still go to that
avatar.

Out-world donations can go to Vday.org itself, (Keep It Simple)?

I spoke with several colleges who apparently prefer to talk to a real
name rather then a pseudonym. As my real name appears on my yahoo
email, it has enabled me to get my foot in the door with Shael at
Vday.org and Danah with Danah.org. I also have 3 colleges locally,
Central Florida I am planning on meeting. Rollins, Seminole Community
and UCF.

Danah and Shael are both excited we are doing this. Danah will help in
any way she can with the exception of entering SL. In fact I have
found most I speak with at colleges who study 3D worlds do not
participate with them directly. In fact to quote Danah:

"Shael is sorta right.. I am a researcher and I study how people use
social technologies, mostly youth and social network sites. I'm
friends with Philip from SL and Cory (who used to work there) and am
as familiar with SL as a non-user gets. 3D environments make me
physically nauseous due to conflicting depth cue signals so I've
only
entered SL for about 15 minutes. I'm totally in support of what
you're doing but I can't really participate. Still, once you have all

of the announcement information set up, do let me know so that I can
blog it. Many folks I know are super into SL. <grin> "

At this point I think we need at least one person heading up each of
the 3 proposed sections rather then everyone randomly running around
setting up times that may conflict.

Also when are the best times to reach said persons?

I am working on a notecard and schedule of my life and when I am able
to participate.

Any feedback on this is appreciated and I hope this makes sense.

CallieDel - NO on this - the reason for VdayAccountant is to keep the integrity of fund control.  I'm a CPA iRL.  This is important.   All in-world donations must go to the donation boxes or to VdayAccountant.  Because I have to file a financial report to VDay.org after the production is done, and I need a clean set of records to work from.

Yes, definitely - we have discussed this before.

Good note, Callie and well-stated. Right now I am handling some
outworld projects, but I will be at the Manhattan Theatre Club on the
20th and 21st (Sunday and Monday) and if I can get permission (and
Photoshop working) I can leave flyers at reception. I'll do what I
can, not promising anything because these people are apathetic about
virtual worlds.

Alice - are you Allie Tomsen iSL?

I'm going nuts trying to keep my lists of people straight, lol, and whoever designs the program is going to need a good list.

Ada, I think the tip jar would be set for ALL funds to go directly
into your Vday Accountant account. That way you will have an
downloadable transaction history from the SL account. Funds deposited
in the tip jar aren't anonymous and are all separate in the
transaction history.. You'll need to download the spreadsheet often,
because I think LL caps the info at 500 transactions. Also the tip jar
is just another name for what the donation box is, only it would be
set to a specific avatar, in this case: VdayAccountant.

Hi Marin, that's my point.  All donations go to VdayAccountant so that she can download the xls file from the SL website and send it to me to compile into the data we need for sponsor information, and, ultimately, sending the funds to VDay.org and making the report for them.  I'm already posting that information as a google group page - you should have gotten the notice on that last night.  Tory is sending me the xls downloads frequently.

VDayAccountant, for that reason, is the only one who may rez a donation box, because the donation box scripts always pay to the owner of the box.  No one else should make or rez a donation box for the VDay fundraising campaign.  VDayAccountant and I are the only two avatars who own copies of the official VDay donation box, and my copy is disabled.  It's not a perfect solution, because someone could scam the campaign by putting out fake boxes that pay to someone else.  But it's about the best we can do until SL comes up with better ways of managing money in world.

Oh I understand Ada. Looks like VdayAccountant will get to see a lot
of SL in the coming weeks!

Yes indeed :)  Another good thing that we didn't even know when we set it up, is that ToryLynn is good at fund raising, so when her alt is out and about more people are likely to get the message from her in person. :) :)

I wonder about the donation boxes. I got one to put out for Fight
Hunger, and all donations go to them, even though I am not even a
member. So I guess it is a question, how the script is set. If so, we
might ask them, how that works? Because: that will be a lot of work to
set all the boxes out for only one person?

Hi Morgue  - The script for the VDay donation boxes sends all the money to the rezzer of the box - which in our case is VdayAccountant Telling.  I know there are other scripts out there, but I needed one that was moddable so I could check it before it went into the box.  There are scammers out there with no-mod donation box scripts that send the money to themselves, and the charity never sees any of it.  I'm trying to make this process transparent and verifiable, which is nearly impossible in Linden dollars, but we do what we can.

Yes it is work for VDay aka Tory, but it does get her out there to talk to people at the same time.  We're making it more efficient by requiring that she have the group and lm information sent to ToryLynn Writer on a notecard, so she can organize her time.  I have a notecard with donation box instructions that we've been handing out to people interested in hosting a box - the next time I'm in-game I'll post a copy at the VDay group notices.

The reason it's Tory's alt who rezzes the boxes, instead of mine, is that it's important in handling money that the person with access to the funds is not the same person as the one doing the record keeping and verifying.

Thank you for asking these questions!  These are tricky issues iSL, and we're figuring it out as we go.

To be honest, I really don't mind the extra work of logging on.
VdayAccountant gets a chance to run around in her pretty back suit,
and I like the vague anonimity it affords me to be in her skin. also,
a lot of people take to asking questions about the organization when
they see the name, and I get a chance to pass out notecards and answer
questions in my most "official" entity.
