DSP devices include PCIe accelerator cards for direct installation in open PCIe slots; accelerator cards housed in their own hardware enclosures; or audio interfaces equipped with internal DSP chips. These are each pieces of hardware, whereas a DSP plugin is a piece of software, like any standard plugins you already use. The difference is that DSP plugins require DSP devices to power them.
Looking at the iLock License Manager for my individual McDSP plugins, and for the Boutique Bundle HD bundle I have, all list the Deposit Date, but there is no Expiration Date, Activate By Date, or Subscription Period listed. That would lead me to believe the licenses are bound to the v6 versions of the plugins, but not a specific subset of v6 versions.
I recently purchased the Everything Pack v6.4 HD. I received confirmation from McDSP that the license should work with the older 6.3.0.11 installer, and I can confirm with my own testing that it does indeed work. That means the Live Pack 2 should also work.
Hey Kate, have you had any luck getting the EC300 to work? Also, I downloaded your link to Venue 6.3 installer, but those seem to be .exe files for windows and not .aaxplugin files for the venue. Could you let me know if I am missing a step or if the .exe files are able to work somehow?
McDSP native and HD plugins differ in the format in which they are designed to run. The native plugins are designed to run on computer systems using a standard host application DAW such as Cubase, Live, Reaper and so on, while the HD plugins are designed to run on Pro Tools HD and Venue systems only and unless you have that then you only need the Native version.

Once all the audio assets have been imported and implemented within our game, we then need to ensure that they are all mixed coherently. This factor is especially crucial for dialog since our ears are especially sensitive to the nuances of human speech. This is where the McDSP SA-2 comes in handy. SA-2 is a multi-band active EQ that is specifically tailored for transparent dialog processing. It can help to act as a final glue on your dialog stems, adding that final touch of polish and finesse.
In the example above, you can hear the subtle flattening that the SA-2 applies to the dialog. The assault mode is quite aggressive for most dialog, but perhaps this is just what we might need for certain scenes!
In our January blog, we looked at transitioning sounds between 2D and 3D, where the 2D sound had some filtering applied to make it sound like a communication device. FutzBox offers a lot more customisation with performant, high-quality results. From old phones to small TV speakers, and even a PVC pipe, FutzBox has a wide variety of quick simulation options. The dialog can then be further tweaked via filtering, distortion, and the addition of some noise, to craft a truly bespoke solution. The results, of course, sound great.
With a few quick adjustments, we can achieve much better results than merely using EQ and filtering, all while retaining the flexibility of doing this within Atom Craft. We could create several different types of diegetic speakers and set them up as Snapshots, switching between them as necessary. Designing our system in this way saves space over having several different stems of the same audio which have been processed offline.
The above example is a simulation of the type of audio that might be triggering within a given scene. Several ambience layers played at the same time as gunfire, and an explosion has the potential to incur clipping despite our best efforts.
Issue #1 - Studio One 5 scanning 0 - 10,000 plugins on startup. First of all I don't have 10,000 plugins. Not even close to that. Second, I realize I could disable scanning at startup, but that doesn't fix the issue. A few days ago, out of curiosity, I let Studio One 5 scan all 10K plugins. Took 2.5 hours and multiple times I had to click the "QUIT" button on the same McDSP plugin (Futzbox). I had to do this like 6 times over the span of S1 5 scanning all 10K plugins. LOL. So weird. It's like S1 thinks I have 5-6 copies of the exact same plugin thus it's scanning them multiple times, to add up to 10K in number. Any ideas as to what could be going on or how I could solve this issue?
