End of Another Office Year

Dear Honorary Members, Well Wishers and Members of SLSAJ,

At this moment which closes up another office year of SLSAJ (2010/11) and opens up another year (2011/12), honored tributes go to the whole community who gathered around SLSAJ...

We as the past committee was in a mission of conducting the established activities of SLSAJ, with a history of 24 years, and try to add what ever possible which will make good for SLSAJ...

With that mission in place we could do somethings that we feel, might have added some value; in brief;

Routine Activities:

• New Year/ Thaipongal event: adding some cultural and entertaining items to the program
• Publication of Tharanga Magazine: although the Sinhala Hindu New Year Festival was canceled the magazine was launched on the day of the Annual Alms Giving
• Annual Alms Giving: making it a whole day event with additions to the event while changing the venue to Komaba 
• Annual SLSAJ trip: to Niigata to interact with the Sri Lankan community there 
• Publication of Annual Research Journal: with ISSN number for the first time while improving the reviewing process, online publication of journal papers for the 2st time
• Annual Research Session: getting cooperated with 3 recruiting companies to collaborate and share information to the members
• AGM and Get-together: SLSAJ Mega show introducing a reality show concept for the event and more entertaining events

Other Activities and Initiatives

• Redeveloping the website: adding more features and more information to the website (academic info, career info, classifieds, etc)
• Donation and volunteer work in Fukushima during the March 11 Tsunami to Japan
• Volunteer work at Sambuddhaloka Viharaya aiding the construction of a new temple
• Branch formation in several areas of Japan (Niigata. Hokkaido, Ehime, Kyoto)
• Creation of a member database (consists of 72 member details as of now)
• Creation of a mail group for well wishers of SLSAJ
• Initiating the collaborations with Japanese Graduate's Alumni Association of Sri Lanka (JaGAAS)
• Initiatives to welcome and help prospective students in our capacity

All these achievements will be a dream or a miracle in the absence of the great contribution, support, commitment and the guidance of all related to SLSAJ...

I would like to pay tributes on behalf of the past committee (2010/11) to all who contributed, guided us and helped us in various ways. There are so many who helped us in many ways so that it would be better not to mention names since it will make this mail much lengthier :-)

Special Thanks goes to the committed committee members who worked at their level best while devoting time as well as money (since no one took transportation reimbursed this year for any event or any meeting) and worked as an inspired team

Concluding, I would like to congratulate and wish all the very best to the newly appointed committee and would like to kindly request you all to provide the immense support, guidance and contribution to the new committee which you all gave us during the past year...

May SLSAJ have a brighter future with more and more success stories making SLSAJ, an association and a place that makes all to feel they are in there mother country and providing valuable contributions to future leaders and for the development of Sri Lanka and the host country, Japan...

May all of you have best of luck in your future endeavors...
