Thanks to all those who got in touch in response to the former High Commission building ( the property including the 2 mews flats at the back – 4 and 4a Weymouth Mews).
In 2014, a Serious Crime Prevention Order was also handed down against Mr Davenport at an earlier hearing. Commenting
on the case, Judge Testar said:
“The important thing is that in this case nothing has been cut and dried. Edward Davenport has only agreed matters in these criminal proceedings
at a late stage. For some four years I have had a deep sense that moving matters along in the case has been a truly Sisyphean task, both before during and after the trial…
“Through his dishonesty Mr Davenport has caused harm to many people and it would be an insensitive judge who was not conscious
of those whom he has defrauded…
“In the end I have decided that the risk of Mr Davenport retaining some of the fruits of his crime is one that my public duty dictates I should
not take.”
Mr Davenport was sentenced to seven years, eight months in prison in October 2011, following a prosecution brought by the Serious Fraud Office,
though his sentence was reduced by the court to take into consideration time in which he was subject to a curfew order and time that he was held in custody before being sentenced. He was also disqualified from acting as a company director for ten years.

‘Lord’ (bogus title) Edward Davenport, who ‘bought’ the property, was subsequently prosecuted by the UK’s Serious Fraud Office, jailed and property, including 33 Portland Place, confiscated
to be sold.
In 2015, the SFO issued a press release, which stated, among other things:
Edward Davenport, convicted and sentenced for his role in a multi-million pound venture capital fraud, has today satisfied £13 million worth of
his confiscation and compensation orders. In order to make the payment, Davenport sold 33 Portland Place, a 24-bedroom mansion in Marylebone, London. The sale completed on 11 May 2015, enabling Davenport to pay the relevant
sums to Her Majesty’s Courts and Tribunals Service.
Full press release attached.
The property was eventually sold for £27million and was bought by ‘Conegate Ltd’, a company owned by David Sullivan, co-owner of West Ham United Football Club.

Yesterday, I attended a conference across the road from our former High Commission and I could not resist the urge to take some pics - it is not looking its best – see attached photos.
