Fodei,

I like it where, last Friday, you wrote - and I would direct this, broadly speaking, to our Salone leaders (rulers would perhaps be a more apt description) regardless of persuasion - "what could be so hard about managing such a small country for the benefit of all?" This also brings to mind a line from a Lauryn Hill hit number where she sings "it could all be so simple" in taking into account our country's imbroglio where it seems everything has gone downhill.

Ade, thanks for your update on an unfortunate situation. 33 Portland Place was my first place of residence when I arrived in London in 1961 at age 6 before we moved to 3 Ingram Ave, Hampstead Heath, NW London. The latter was what our government - on recommendation from my old man - bought as the High Commissioner's residence in 1962.

Back to 33 Portland Place: my old man would be turning in his grave at the fate of our High Commission I would think. Will the good ol' days be here again? Ah taya sef yet man must keep forging toward the golden fleece!

Kwame

Bra Ade,
Thank you so much for your efforts in keeping us updated about matters concerning our beloved country's national assets in London that were mismanaged by greedy, selfish, and shameless individuals. You are a true patriot boss Ade! May the Good Lord continue to bless you abundantly!

As for the All Peoples Congress...and even some members of the SLPP...but more so the AP Sheee...there is a special place in hell for people like them. These APC guys actually fight tooth and nail to capture our beloved country (the one place that belongs to us all), then they proceed to use it like a milking cow for themselves, their inbred families and their moral-compass-less kolonkohs, and in the process cause unnecessary loss of lives and destruction of entire livelihoods in our once beautiful country all so that they can "bluff pan den company mortal man dem" with ill-gotten wealth, foreign cars the names of which they cannot even correctly pronounce (Yeep, for example!). What could be so hard about managing such a small country for the benefit of all?
May the APC and their tribalistic fans and collaborators rot in the deepest and hottest parts of hell for using the name of OUR country "Sierra Leone" as a rubber stamp to ill-gotten wealth. May the souls of all the innocent babies and children who died from Ebola, the mudslides and preventable diseases curse those responsible in the APC and their bloodlines forever! Alaki mortal dem!
This time around we are coming to take back our country....you stand in our way and see...if you're lucky you will see The Hague!
You can cook the voter rolls all you want, inflate the census to increase numbers in the north that reliable ARIMA models do not bear out, spread tribalism  and circulate fake news, bring in IT experts to hack NEC databases, try to intimidate poor Sierra Leoneans with thuggery and violence, go fen juju, or postpone the date of the elections all you want, even sacrifice human beings as you have done in the past....it's all not going to work this time around because you are massively unpopular and the long-suffering people of Sierra Leone are ready for you and your desperate so-called 99 tactics of nonsense. You also have the curse of Ebola victims, mudslide victims hanging over your heads forever!
We already have the data and come March 7 the APC are going to be relegated to the dustbin of history! Any other outcome will be evidence to the international community of something they already know. That part will be up to them...the people of Sierra Leone shall do their own part to liberate the only country they have from tyranny....i will leave that at that for now...

Thanks to all those who got in touch in response to the former High Commission building ( the property including the 2 mews flats at the back – 4 and 4a Weymouth Mews).

In 2014, a Serious Crime Prevention Order was also handed down against Mr Davenport at an earlier hearing. Commenting on the case, Judge Testar said:

“The important thing is that in this case nothing has been cut and dried. Edward Davenport has only agreed matters in these criminal proceedings at a late stage. For some four years I have had a deep sense that moving matters along in the case has been a truly Sisyphean task, both before during and after the trial…

“Through his dishonesty Mr Davenport has caused harm to many people and it would be an insensitive judge who was not conscious of those whom he has defrauded…

“In the end I have decided that the risk of Mr Davenport retaining some of the fruits of his crime is one that my public duty dictates I should not take.”

Mr Davenport was sentenced to seven years, eight months in prison in October 2011, following a prosecution brought by the Serious Fraud Office, though his sentence was reduced by the court to take into consideration time in which he was subject to a curfew order and time that he was held in custody before being sentenced. He was also disqualified from acting as a company director for ten years.

(full press release attached)

‘Lord’ (bogus title) Edward Davenport, who ‘bought’ the property, was subsequently prosecuted by the UK’s Serious Fraud Office, jailed and property, including 33 Portland Place, confiscated to be sold.

In 2015, the SFO issued a press release, which stated, among other things:

Edward Davenport, convicted and sentenced for his role in a multi-million pound venture capital fraud, has today satisfied £13 million worth of his confiscation and compensation orders. In order to make the payment, Davenport sold 33 Portland Place, a 24-bedroom mansion in Marylebone, London. The sale completed on 11 May 2015, enabling Davenport to pay the relevant sums to Her Majesty’s Courts and Tribunals Service.

Full press release attached.

The property was eventually sold for £27million and was bought by ‘Conegate Ltd’, a company owned by David Sullivan, co-owner of West Ham United Football Club.

Yesterday, I attended a conference across the road from our former High Commission and I could not resist the urge to take some pics - it is not looking its best – see attached photos.
